eSports-related business CELLORB announced on October 15, 2025, that it has successfully completed a funding round totaling 1 billion yen, led by The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners.
Through this funding round, CELLORB will exit its status as a consolidated subsidiary of DONUTS and launch as an independent company. As part of the transition, the company also announced that Masato Sakuama, formerly co-CEO with user-base roots, has assumed the role of Director COO.
CELLORB was established in April 2024 following a management merger between VARREL, an eSports team operator, and TOPANGA, which organizes and runs events centered on fighting games. The company is also known for appointing professional gamer Tokido (Ichiro Taniguchi) as a director (related article).
According to the announcement, the raised funds will be fully allocated toward talent acquisition, system development, and IP creation, aiming to expand the possibilities of eSports and game entertainment worldwide in pursuit of establishing a new core industry for Japan.
