From October 16 to 19, 2025, Singular Sunshine Studios, a Thai game development studio, exhibited their title Conquest Tactics: Realm of Sin at gamescom asia × Thailand Game Show 2025 in Bangkok. The game is a roguelike that fuses turn-based strategy with deck-building mechanics. I had the opportunity to speak with Supachai Choosith from the studio at the event, and here’s an overview of the title.

“Conquest Tactics: Realm of Sin” uses a hexagonal grid system, where unit orientation during placement plays a crucial tactical role. Before positioning units on the board, players can rotate each unit to set its direction. This mechanic allows for pre-planning both offensive and defensive directions. As such, by combining unit placement with directional setup, players gradually build up their own strategic battlefield layout.

The goal of combat is simple: destroy the enemy’s flag to win. However, achieving this isn’t straightforward. Arrows displayed on-screen indicate unique long-range attack ranges different from standard attacks. Players must carefully manage command points while protecting their own war banner and launching assaults into enemy territory.

Choosith explained that enemies, like players, can perform a wide variety of actions. Since combat is turn-based, each decision becomes critical. To expand the playable area and launch attacks against enemy forces, players must skillfully manage unit positioning and reorientation.

Each playthrough offers a different experience. A distinctive feature is its day-night cycle system. Each unit has unique abilities—some perform better during daylight, others shine at night. Since unit performance changes depending on time of day, strategic planning from the deck-building stage onward becomes essential.

Players progress through adventures run by run. Choices made during in-game events directly impact their strength. For example, defeating an NPC triggers effects similar to buffs or debuffs. Players must manage these elements themselves while enhancing their decks throughout each run.

Along the journey, players can recruit new units and rebuild their decks. Winning battles grants currency used to select routes for the next run. Each node on the map has a unique purpose—players may discover new units at taverns or purchase consumables and gear from shops, offering different choices in every playthrough.

One standout feature is the Travel Shop. Here, players can buy temporary power-up items and equipment, as well as recruit new units. Defensive gameplay-oriented elements are also included, allowing players to shape their progression based on personal tactical preferences. In other words, not only does combat demand strategic depth, but overall resource management across each run is equally vital.

Choosith stated, “Anyone who enjoys strategy games will likely appreciate this title.” With numerous mechanics seamlessly combined, players are able to craft their own unique strategies. This is precisely the core of what the game aims for: deep strategic depth.

Within the geometric constraints of a hex grid system, multiple elements—unit orientation, placement, abilities, and day-night cycles—are interwoven. At first glance, it may seem like just another strategy game—but upon actual play, players will notice how the intricate combinations create surprising tactical richness.

Singular Sunshine Studios is a five-member team, with development spanning approximately one year. The project began with just two people and has since grown into its current form. Despite being a small team, the game showcases serious depth in strategy design.

Currently, a demo version is available on Steam for anyone to play. The official release is scheduled for January 2026, and a Japanese localization is also planned. Notably, the development team will be exhibiting at Tokyo Game Show 2025, signaling their strong interest in entering the Japanese market.
