VISION8 has announced that it will hold the first major retrospective exhibition of illustrator Mutsumi Inomata, titled “Mutsumi Inomata Retrospective Exhibition,” at Marui City Yokohama from December 5 to 28, 2025, marking the first large-scale exhibit following her passing on October 16, 2025.

This exhibition will feature over 120 original artworks—paintings on paper in vibrant color—from Mutsumi Inomata’s extensive body of work across animation, novels, games, and original creations. Among the highlights are rare manga drafts from the 1980s displayed in their entirety for the first time, along with previously unseen works and materials never before made public.

As a special entry gift, attendees will receive a clear file featuring an illustration from a newly unveiled original work—exclusive to this exhibition. A wide range of official merchandise will also be available for purchase.

(EDITION88 Art Gallery) will host the “Mutsumi Inomata Retrospective Exhibition” from Friday, December 5 to Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Marui City Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture.

This exhibition brings together over 120 vibrant original artworks—created on paper with paint—from her career across animation, novels, games, and original works. This exhibition features only original analog artworks—color illustrations painted with watercolors on Arches paper. No digital works will be displayed.

Be sure to see the first-time public display of previously unseen color illustrations and manga drafts discovered after her passing. Experience up close the beautiful, authentic coloring, texture (matière), and subtle brushwork that could not be fully captured in past printed materials.

Mutsumi Inomata Profile

Born December 23, 1960 in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. O-type blood, left-handed.
Character designer and illustrator.
Debut work: Plares 3 Shiro; notable works include Fantasy War Chronicle Leda, Windaria, New Century GPX Cyber Formula (anime), Space Prince, Land of Wind (novel illustrations and film), and numerous titles in the “Tales of” series, including Tales of Destiny. She left behind a legacy of countless beautiful artworks. Passed away suddenly on March 10, 2024. Deeply loved cats, which she frequently used as artistic motifs.
