Red Barrels has today (October 17, 2025) released a gameplay trailer introducing the new content “Invasion”, set to launch on October 21 in the survival horror game The Outlast Trials for PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Xbox One.
“Invasion” is the series’ first PvP game mode, in which an imposter disguised as a test subject secretly infiltrates the group. The imposters perfectly mimic the appearance of real test subjects and aim to eliminate all other participants.
When multiple imposters are present, their number changes depending on how many test subjects remain in the trial, and each imposter must switch out after a certain time period. Imposters not currently active can monitor test subjects via cameras and provide information to those actively acting.

As with regular trials, enemy characters still exist on the map and will attack both test subjects and imposters alike. Successfully avoiding encounters with enemies while identifying real test subjects will be key to survival.
Beyond the released trailer, detailed explanations of the system and rules are also available on the official website’s news page. Be sure to check it out closely—this new mode promises a completely different gameplay experience from anything before.
