At the BCN Game Fest 2025 held in Barcelona, Spain from October 10 to 12, 2025, Melbot Studios unveiled a brand-new playable demo of their upcoming action RPG titled GodsTV.

“GodsTV,” which successfully raised nearly four times its Kickstarter funding goal, is a roguelike action game set at the boundaries of multiple universes. It follows protagonists thrown into a mad television game show where they fight relentlessly to rise to stardom. The game’s concept appears inspired by the 1990s American arcade title “Smash TV,” but instead of adopting its run-and-gun style, “GodsTV” features fast-paced movement across stages and aggressive takedowns of appearing aliens.

Each time a stage is cleared, players can upgrade their abilities using collected “Star Power.” However, dying resets progress entirely—a typical roguelike mechanic. Still, returning backstage to negotiate with the producer allows players to enter the next round equipped with enhanced gear. Additionally, receiving divine blessings—essentially securing sponsors—grants access to sacred brands (or?) enabling better weapons, skills, and power-ups for promotional purposes, allowing gameplay to continue without frustration even after death.

Jangmi Baek, the lead developer, originally worked in finance and investment before unexpectedly entering the gaming industry. After securing development partners in Barcelona and Los Angeles—and signing a publishing deal with Starbreeze—the project faced setbacks when Starbreeze’s cost-cutting measures froze funding efforts. Nevertheless, through successful crowdfunding, the team managed to reach a point where an early access version is expected by 2026, and full-scale promotional activities officially began in spring 2025. Although they endured difficult times, the team now considers self-publishing options while actively seeking new partners.

“GodsTV” also supports co-op mode, making it enjoyable to compete against other players in speedrun-style challenges. While the version shown at BCN Game Fest was older, a demo is available on Steam’s store page for those interested. With Japanese language support included, players who enjoy it should add it to their wishlist. The final product will feature further refined graphics and effects, so fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for updates.
