“Monster Hunter Wilds” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) will feature a collaboration event with “Final Fantasy XIV,” set to be added in the third free title update, scheduled for release on September 29, 2025.

At this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 Capcom booth, we had the chance to experience the boss quest featuring the collaborative monster “Omega Planetes.” Here’s our report.
Please note that the quest experienced was adjusted for demo purposes and may differ from what will be released in the final product version.

In Final Fantasy XIV, Omega first appeared in the raid content “Omega: The Narrowing of Dimensions” as a formidable enemy. It remains ambiguous whether it’s mechanical or biological—a mysterious lifeform.

Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds is described as one of the Omega Frames that descended into the forbidden zone through the dimensional rift.

The weapons provided for the demo were mostly lightning-elemental, suggesting lightning as a weakness. Although it has a mechanical appearance, we didn’t get the impression that any specific part was unusually hard to damage—basic strategy involved targeting its legs to deal consistent damage.

When sufficient damage is dealt to the head, the player who inflicted the damage acquires “enemy aggro,” allowing them to draw attacks from Omega Planetes.
Aggro is clearly indicated by a notification on the right side of the screen and a red line connecting the player and Omega Planetes—making it easy to see who currently holds the aggro.

Similar to the collaboration with Behemoth in “Monster Hunter: World,” one player draws attention while others chip away at its health.

Omega’s attacks included flame breath targeting the ground, a long-range wave cannon, missiles whose explosion radius is shown, homing rocket fists, and deploying multiple small robots called “Omega Micros” that self-destruct.

Anyone who has played FFXIV’s Omega battle will recognize these attack patterns.

Players who have aggro take significantly more damage, so weapons with strong defensive capabilities are recommended.
Additionally, some area-of-effect attacks track the player character—requiring you to move out of the way and discard them when necessary.

Blocking the wave cannon feels tank-like and looks impressive.

Successfully executing a blade block lets you push back and immediately counterattack with the fist.

Two unique features in this quest are the “Defense Barrier” and the “Pictomancer’s Mark.”

The Defense Barrier appears when you destroy Omega Planetes’ wounds or use dropped slinger bullets.
Standing within this zone blocks certain attacks—providing a safe spot where you can recover while continuing to attack.

Additionally, a special item called “Paint Magic” is available. It has unlimited uses but imposes a 30-second cooldown after each use.
It offers three effects: dropping round objects, summoning wind gusts, and firing beams—each used in sequence.
Using it involves an animation where the player draws a picture, creating a brief opening—but this trade-off is worth it for the high damage output. It’s definitely worth aiming for.

As you repeatedly move between areas and chip away at Omega Planetes’ health, it will eventually attempt to unleash its powerful move: Delta Attack.
While preparing Delta Attack, players must quickly defeat the generated “Neltharac Clone” and aim to activate a special defense barrier.

During this phase, creatures like Sboboten and Molbor also appear. Be careful—attacking them recklessly may result in damage from thousands of needles or status effects caused by their foul breath.

Successfully dodging Delta Attack marks the transition into the second half of battle. The attack intensity increased significantly by this point, but our demo time ended before we could go further.
