On October 6–12, 2025—when two Japanese researchers won Nobel Prizes—4Gamer published a total of 321 articles. Today marks the final day of Osaka’s Kansai Expo, which is expected to generate a surplus of up to 28 billion yen, thanks to strong merchandise sales. As always, the “Miyakumiyaku” magic is in full effect. How was your enjoyable three-day weekend? Time for Weekly 4Gamer!

Last week, South America’s largest gaming event, “Brasil Game Show 2025 (BGS 2025),” took place in São Paulo—the city famous for its samba and the Amazon River. The event ran from October 9 to 12 local time. Since its launch in 2009, BGS 2025 attracted 306,000 total attendees last year, with 961 playable demos showcasing a total of 427 games. This number surpasses the 263,101 visitors at this year’s Tokyo Game Show and approaches the roughly 357,000 attendance recorded at gamescom 2025.
Brazil now has over 100 million gamers, with mobile gaming and esports experiencing rapid growth. As a result, Japanese companies such as Nintendo, Sega, and Arc System Works participated in the event. The stage also featured appearances by prominent Japanese creators: Hideo Kojima, Naoki Hamaguchi, and Yoko Shimomura (related article). Did you know that Brazil is such a powerhouse in gaming?
While it’s not something you can casually travel to, don’t worry—4Gamer has sent its reporting team onsite and continues publishing live coverage. Though the atmosphere feels more like a festival for gamers than an event focused on new releases or announcements, be sure to click below and check out any articles that catch your eye! Ora ora!
Note: The photos are from BGS 2024.

Next, a quick announcement: if you check the front page of 4Gamer, you’ll notice a new service—listen to article summaries via AI voice. Whether it’s a long or short piece, this feature can help busy modern readers grasp the gist in just two minutes (though it’s marked as beta, so likely still in early testing—maybe with a winking emoji? 😊). While I personally struggle with summarizing things, I encourage you to embrace 4Gamer’s high-tech innovation and make good use of this tool.
With that said, we’re back again, taking a quick, light-hearted look at the past week’s events in 4Gamer and global gaming. So—what actually happened?
Note: PlayStation is abbreviated as PS, Nintendo Switch as Switch, smartphones as smartphone, etc.
[Top 10 Most-Visited Articles from Last Week]
The top article last week was a piece covering an update to Cygames’ “Umamusume Pretty Derby” (iOS / Android / PC). Launched officially in 2021, Umamusume features players raising anthropomorphized racehorses and competing in races—this franchise has expanded into anime, comics, live concerts, and more. Despite being active for nearly four years since launch, its popularity remains strong. As previously announced, the update on October 7 introduced major changes to support card mechanics, including removing level requirements, while also fixing bugs. Additionally, a limited-time “Special Mane Shop” has opened.

Details on Support Card Mechanic Changes
The second most-read article reported a security incident involving Discord, where unauthorized access led to the leak of personal information. According to Discord’s official statement, users who had interacted with Discord Customer Support or Safety Team were affected—approximately 70,000 individuals may have had documents such as ID photos exposed. However, credit card numbers and passwords were not compromised.
It’s truly alarming how vulnerable our digital world has become—from major beer companies being hit by cyberattacks leading to production halts, to the increasing frequency of such incidents (a bit of a personal gripe). I sometimes miss the days when long-distance communication meant just phone calls or postcards. (Just kidding—those were terrible.)

Latest Update on Third-Party Customer Service Security Incident
The third most-read article was a playthrough report of the demo for “The End of History,” developed by independent game creator Tatsuro (Tatami Room). Known for his unique storytelling, Tatami Room previously created walking simulators like NOSTALGIC TRAIN (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Xbox One / Switch) and FARAWAY TRAIN: The Train at the End of the World (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S). The End of History is a sandbox-style strategy RPG where one young protagonist explores a medieval fantasy world, freely choosing to become a merchant, general, or thief—offering extremely high replayability. The oil-paint-like graphics are also stunning.

In addition to the previously implemented “Kurosawa Mode” (which turns the screen black and white), two new modes are being added: “Mikami Mode” and “Watanabe Mode.” “Mikami Mode” pays homage to director Takashi Mikami—when activated, the camera pulls in tightly on characters for increased intensity. However, this may make surroundings harder to see, increasing difficulty. Meanwhile, “Watanabe Mode” features music composed by Shin’ichirō Watanabe—extremely cool and perfectly matching the enhanced graphics of the PS5 version. Sucker Punch Productions means business.

[Most-Noticed Articles from Last Week]
As usual, let’s pick out some standout articles—play reports, event coverage, interviews, and special features—from the week.
First up: the Tokyo Game Show 2025, held from September 25 to 28. Even though we’ve already covered it multiple times, last week brought fresh content. S-GAME’s upcoming action title “Phantom Blade Zero” (PC / PS5) received a hands-on report, along with an interview about “Onimusha 3” (PC / PS5) and coverage on Paradox Interactive’s new strategy game “Europa Universalis V” (PC). Next, we have an article about the asymmetrical multiplayer game “Halloween” (PC/PS5 / Xbox Series X|S), scheduled for release in 2026, based on interviews with Illfonic staff (here).
Thumbnail image No. 026 / Weekly 4Gamer: Reflecting on the week of October 6–12, 2025
Asymmetrical multiplayer games are currently dominated by “Dead by Daylight”, but Illfonic has previously developed titles based on movies—such as Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. This new title is based on John Carpenter’s iconic 1978 horror film. While there have been remakes and sequels, this game features Michael Myers, the legendary killer, facing off against four civilians—with a special mechanic involving NPC bystanders to protect.
Compared to athletic Jason or flashy Freddy, Michael has distinct traits: “Silently stalk his target from shadows,” “Never runs.” How these traits are implemented (or not) in-game is worth checking out—read the article!
