Square Enix today (October 10, 2025) unveiled the latest information for its upcoming HD-2D version of Dragon Quest I & II, scheduled for release on October 30th across PC, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. This time, new story elements in the HD-2D version of Dragon Quest I (hereafter DQI) are highlighted.
In Dragon Quest I & II, numerous story elements that evoke connections to the Roto Trilogy have been added. In DQI, players will seek the power of Spirit Rubis, who also appeared in Dragon Quest III: And Then the Legend…, to save a world covered in darkness. To accomplish this, the protagonist must visit the homeland of a fairy tribe deeply connected with Spirit Rubis and strive toward summoning him.

Additionally, DQI introduces new encounters with characters not present in the original version and expands on existing storylines, deepening the narrative further. As adventurers journey through the world, they’ll hear stories from people they meet along the way and help resolve various incidents.

In the HD-2D version of Dragon Quest I & II (hereafter DQI and DQII), numerous story segments have been added, emphasizing ties between the Roto Trilogy. In DQI, players must enlist the aid of Spirit Rubis, who appeared in Dragon Quest III, to rescue a world engulfed by darkness. To summon him, adventurers will visit the hidden home of a fairy tribe deeply connected with Spirit Rubis.
