Today (October 10, 2025), Mojang Studios has begun distributing Snapshot 25w41a for the Java Edition of [Minecraft].

This update introduces the first batch of new features from the upcoming major update “Mounts of Mayhem,” including a brand-new underwater mob called the “Nautilus” and a new weapon: the “Spear.”

The Nautilus, as its name suggests, appears in the form of a nautilus shell. It can be tamed by feeding it pufferfish, and when equipped with a saddle, it becomes a mount that allows movement underwater without depleting your oxygen meter. Additionally, it can dash while moving—making it extremely useful for navigating underwater environments.

The Spear is a weapon crafted from two sticks and one ingot. It features two attack types: a basic “thrust” for close-range combat, and a “charged attack,” which allows you to charge forward while attacking. Damage from the charged attack increases based on your movement speed.

This enables entirely new combat styles—for example, engaging in mounted battles using horses or Nautiluses, or launching surprise attacks from mid-air using an Elytra or Happy Goo.
