Square Enix today (September 26, 2025) released the latest information for HD-2D version “Dragon Quest I & II” (available on PC / Switch 2 / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch), scheduled for release on October 30. This time, the new adventure setting in HD-2D “Dragon Quest II”—the underwater world—is highlighted.
As players progress through “Dragon Quest II,” they can travel not only across the sea but also beneath it using ships. Deep below, a hidden merfolk community lives quietly. Players will explore their town, “Almeha,” and discover dangerous dungeons located in the ocean depths.

Along their journey, the main characters meet a pair of merfolk and learn that the underwater world is also under attack by followers of High Priest Hargon. They must protect the merfolk from sinister forces creeping beneath the sea and restore peace to the oceans. Defeat the powerful enemy “Milieira,” one of Hargon’s direct subordinates.
As the story progresses, players gain access to even deeper regions—the “Deep Sea”—opening up new frontiers into uncharted realms.
