The Tokyo Game Show 2025 has ended, and life has returned to normal.
That said, this year in particular, I didn’t feel all that rushed personally. I only went to Makuhari Messe on Saturday (September 27).
Of course, I appeared daily on the official TGS program “Arcade Archiver,” hosted by HAMSTER Corporation (external link), so I wasn’t exactly doing nothing.
Still, my main job—professional wrestling—was busier than ever; I had matches two days before and the day before TGS 2025, leaving me still fatigued.
I don’t really have a reason to say this here, but there’s no other chance to get it out, so I’ll just say it: In my 24th year as a professional wrestler at age 48, things are going well in my main career.
I’m still not the kind of wrestler who wins consistently—I’ve never been particularly strong—but I’m still getting placed on interesting match cards and being sought after by other promotions, so I keep telling myself, “Well, maybe I still belong in this world.”
This column is also possible only because I’m a professional wrestler. Thanks to that, I can at least earn enough to raise one dog without too much hardship.
It’s not something I’d ever declare publicly on my game site, but I hope I can keep pushing myself as a wrestler for as long as I possibly can.
Now, about this week’s topic—despite the busy schedule around TGS and my wrestling work, my backlog of games has been growing again. Just months ago, I was complaining about being lost in my collection; now, it’s the opposite—I simply don’t have enough time to play everything. There are a few titles I bought but haven’t touched yet.
And then I ended up buying “Ghost of Yōtei”. Now my backlog is even more piled high. Among all these stacked games, I’d like to talk about “Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions Chronicles” (PC / Nintendo Switch 2 / PS5 / PS4 / Xbox Series X|S / Nintendo Switch).
This game is a remake of the Final Fantasy Tactics (hereafter FFT) series. I’ve always loved this franchise—so much so that among all Final Fantasy-titled games, I’d say “FFT is my favorite.” Especially the PSP version, “Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions,” I remember playing it so obsessively I lost track of sleep and meals.
Back then, I was still early in my career, living a life on tour buses—spending nights on the road as a professional wrestler—but that routine became clear to me: Play FFT on PSP → get motion sickness from the bus ride → fall asleep → wake up feeling better → play FFT again. That cycle repeated daily. It’s almost unbelievable now.
Motion sickness is generally only overcome by sleeping—but I was so eager to play, I pushed through it anyway. So when a remake came out, there was no way I could skip it.
That’s why I originally intended to write about “Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions Chronicles.” But then—problem arose. As mentioned earlier, I bought “Ghost of Yōtei”. I’d left it untouched for a while… but just now, about an hour ago, I ended up playing it briefly.
Oh no… it’s amazing. I’m not particularly skilled at action games, but that doesn’t matter—this one is just plain fun. Now I feel a kind of duty to talk about “Ghost of Yōtei” before even discussing FFT, despite my original plan.
That said, since I’ve only played for less than an hour, I probably can’t yet speak truly about its deeper appeal—but there’s definitely something gripping from the very start. It’s the atmosphere.
The previous title, “Ghost of Tsushima,” also focused heavily on atmosphere—and this one feels like a polished upgrade in that regard.
I’ll stop here for now. I’ll keep playing it and come back later with deeper thoughts once I’ve gone further. If you’re hesitant, don’t hesitate—just buy it.
For now, I’d say it’s the best game of 2025.
Now, onto the main topic—Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions Chronicles. Unfortunately, my text has run out of space despite not even covering everything I wanted to say. Let me just share one thing: I’m having a great time playing it every night. Since each stage takes about five minutes, I can play no matter how busy my day is.
There’s absolutely no heaviness typical of simulation games—so I end up fighting countless battles unrelated to the story and training characters endlessly. Before I know it, hours have passed. That part hasn’t changed at all from the original.
These days, I don’t live in a car or sleep on buses anymore—but if I were still a young wrestler with that kind of lifestyle, I’d probably be doing exactly what I did 18 years ago: FFT → motion sickness → sleep → wake up → play FFT—travelling between Tokyo and Osaka, or even Tokyo and Sapporo.
It’s not just nostalgic—I genuinely think it’s still a fun simulation game today.

So this week’s story is: I was about to write about FFT—then played “Ghost of Yōtei” and got completely hooked, yet managed to stick to my original plan and at least say something basic about FFT.
Yeah… suddenly, game traffic jams hit you out of nowhere. There are still games left unplayed ahead of me. It’s wonderful. See you next week.
