At Tokyo Game Show 2025 (TGS 2025), Perfect World Games’ hyper-realistic urban open-world RPG “NTE: Neverness to Everness” (PC / PS5 / iOS / Android; hereafter referred to as NTE) is currently on display.

The booth number at the Makuhari Messe venue is Hall 5 (05-C02).

NTE is a free-to-play open-world RPG developed by Hotta Studio, an in-house studio under Perfect World Games. The game was first announced in summer 2024 and underwent a closed beta test (capacity test) in July 2025.

The story unfolds in “Heteroscity,” a large metropolis exuding urban sophistication and refinement. Modern cityscapes symbolize civilization, yet mysterious phenomena known as “Anomalies” appear throughout the streets.

Players take on the role of an appraiser at “Auburn,” an antique shop, solving these anomaly-related incidents while experiencing both chaos and everyday life in this vibrant urban world.

The game’s visual style is bright and pop-inspired anime aesthetics. The anomalies, essentially “civilization devices like vending machines or trash cans transformed into charming monsters,” don’t carry a dark tone despite their surreal nature. The in-game presentation features many comedic elements that will likely draw chuckles.

Its concept is described as “a light-hearted comedy with self-contained episodes.”

Instead of traversing vast open worlds, players enjoy city adventures within the expansive metropolis—occasionally engaging in car chases, running a store, or drumming for a band—all while fully embracing urban daily life.

This is what NTE aims to deliver as an RPG experience.

This year’s highlight is the first-time-ever public debut of the mobile version. For the first time, players can now experience this AAA title on their smartphones—something previously available only on PC and PS5. However, given NTE’s high-spec nature as a cutting-edge next-gen game, one might wonder whether it runs smoothly even on mobile devices.

So we decided to check it out firsthand.

In short, there were almost no issues.

To get straight to the point: it ran smoothly.

Let’s quickly examine what we observed. For more detailed game information, please refer to our previous hands-on report located at the bottom of this article.

Of course, when it comes to a AAA title’s mobile version, performance concerns are natural. The demo used a high-spec smartphone and confirmed that regular gameplay is smooth and fluid—delivering an experience on par with playing on PC.

However, when running at “Ultra-High Graphics Settings with 60 FPS,” we observed minor frame drops or stuttering during special move animations—though the cut-in animation remains highly detailed. This kind of issue may depend on future optimization efforts; in fact, similar behavior can occur even on PC depending on hardware specs. Still, it’s a challenge inherent to high-end graphics.

That said, there’s no noticeable downgrade in graphics compared to the console version. While careful comparison might reveal some slight optimizations or omissions, they’re imperceptible at a glance.

NTE also pays special attention to weather representation. The cityscape during rain or snow evokes unique emotional responses. Although we couldn’t fully explore all aspects in the short demo, ordinary bright streets and NPCs with dynamic behavior patterns appeared seamless and matched the quality of the console version.

Incidentally, a writer who previously covered the capacity test recommended visiting rooftop views atop skyscrapers—offering breathtaking panoramic vistas that reveal another side of Heteroscity.

At the TGS venue, both mobile and PC/PS5 demo stations are available. Even during business days when lines were extremely long, we highly recommend experiencing this title firsthand.

Additionally, a special event titled “Heteroscity Stroll in TGS2025” is being held on-site. A stamp rally program allows visitors to collect free souvenirs such as badges and clear files by trying the game, pre-registering, following the official X account, or posting photos.

Furthermore, a daily limited-time event called “Scarborough City Light Show” features a “sure-win” game board-style activity.

Players roll dice based on the in-game gacha system “Scarborough City,” and depending on the result, they receive either a “Win” (one chance to win a prize) or “Jackpot” (a set of souvenirs). The highlight of the prize set is an acrylic stand and a “Tagi Duckachusha” plushie modeled after NTE’s mascot.

Those eager to prepare for launch should definitely take note.

Other highlights at the booth include encounters with costumed characters: Mint, Nana Ri, Requiem, Hotori, male and female protagonists, MyGO!!!!!’s vocal character Akane Rin, plus plush mascot Tagi and patrol rat.

Due to this being a business day, there were limited cosplayers. However, on general public days, all these characters are expected to appear in full force.

Note: The patrol rat occasionally appears unexpectedly at the venue to deliver surprise traffic safety education—due to its assigned duty of maintaining order in Heteroscity. Given that TGS venues often experience extreme congestion (sometimes taking one second per step), visitors should remain respectful and mindful when observing booths to avoid being “pulled” by the patrol rat.
