At the Capcom booth during “Tokyo Game Show 2025,” a new smartphone strategy game titled “BIOHAZARD Survival Unit”, co-developed by Aniplex and JOYCITY, is on display as a playable demo.
This game is a strategy title inspired by Capcom’s popular survival horror franchise, “Resident Evil.” While maintaining the original series’ world setting, it presents an alternate parallel story. Drawing from firsthand experience at the event, we’ll introduce how this game actually plays.
Please note that the demo version available at Tokyo Game Show 2025 is a special edition and may differ slightly in specifications from the final release.
At the TGS 2025 venue, the demo could be experienced using an iPad Image Gallery No.015 thumbnail / A strategy game based on “Resident Evil” for smartphones, offering the atmosphere of early series titles during exploration phase [TGS2025]
The demo begins with the player controlling a male protagonist exploring a mysterious hospital. He appears to have been an experimental subject for Umbrella Corporation. This exploration phase features fixed camera angles, evoking memories of the early “Resident Evil” titles.
Puzzle-solving elements are also present. For example, players gather clues to unlock a locker’s dial lock and use a knife found inside to open a locked door.
Designed with smartphones in mind, the controls are simple and intuitive. When an enemy is present, a combat icon appears—tapping it automatically aims and attacks.
Additionally, if players attempt to leave a room without collecting important items, those missing items will be highlighted. While this may only apply to the demo version, it clearly reflects the game’s design concept: casual, smartphone-friendly gameplay.
Besides the exploration segment, players could also experience the game’s main strategy component. This involves positioning units to defeat approaching enemies. Numerous beloved characters from the “Resident Evil” series appear as playable units, including Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine.
Gameplay closely resembles tower defense. Players can simply place or reposition units and activate skills. The stages include lighting mechanics—accuracy drops in dark areas, but using a flashlight improves hit rates.

The demo featured two main components: the exploration segment and the strategy portion. In the full release, players will also be able to upgrade their base—“Manor” and “Headquarters.” These elements are familiar territory for smartphone game fans.
Additionally, PvP battles using units are planned. This could result in a casual yet immersive experience where fans can enjoy the “Resident Evil” universe through their favorite characters.
