Angels’ Egg was originally released as an OVA on December 15, 1985. Character design was handled by Kiyoshi Takahashi, renowned for his work on the FF series. The film celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025 and has been remastered in 4K from the original 35mm film negative. It was selected for the Classic section at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, with a special screening in Dolby Cinema starting November 14, followed by nationwide release beginning November 21.
