“What if Momotaro was the villain?”

Based on the classic tale of “Momotaro,” the dark hero saga “Tougen Ankki” portrays a fierce conflict between those descended from demons and those with Momotaro’s blood. Currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion, this manga has gained significant popularity.

The series launched as an anime broadcast starting July 2025, and now we introduce the game adaptation: the 3D turn-based RPG “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno” (available on iOS / Android / PC), faithfully recreating the anime’s story.

In-game, players can experience thrilling 3D battles featuring the main protagonist “Ichinose Shiki,” characters from the Demon Agency such as “Mudano Muno,” “Koukizaki Jin,” “Byobu-ga-Ura Hanami,” and those from the Momotaro Agency including “Momoya Itsuyu,” “Momomiya Toguri,” “Momokusa Hana,” alongside original storylines and new characters.

“This is exactly what I know as Tougen Ankki”

4Gamer:
It’s right in the middle of Tokyo Game Show 2025—thank you for making time. First off, can you tell us what kind of game “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno” actually is?

Lee Un-Je (Development Director):
This is a 3D turn-based RPG that faithfully recreates the world of the TV anime “Tougen Ankki.” Players collect and develop characters from both the Demon Agency and Momotaro Agency, forming teams to enjoy strategic battles. The story fully follows the anime’s original flow while also including exclusive new content unique to this game.

Lee Dong-Won (Program Director):
As the first official game adaptation of “Tougen Ankki,” we’ve aimed to express its intense world theme—conflict between demon and Momotaro bloodlines—with our own balance of strategy and action. We want not only fans of the anime but also newcomers discovering “Tougen Ankki” through this game to enjoy it thoroughly.

Kim Pil-Jong (Art Director):
The biggest strength of this title lies in its unique characters, their distinctive abilities, fast-paced progression, and powerful combat sequences. To elevate these elements, our art team focused on delivering visuals matching the quality of TV animation, creating standout battle skills for each character, and using seamless coordination effects to deepen story immersion. We designed it so both longtime fans and newcomers can emotionally connect with the characters.

4Gamer:
What’s the meaning behind the subtitle “Crimson Inferno”? It sounds like it might reference the protagonist Shiki’s “Flame Demon” power.

Lee Dong-Won:
The subtitle “Crimson Inferno” was chosen after direct discussions with Mr. Urao Kurohara, the original manga creator. This term symbolizes conflict between bloodlines connected by blood, and it ties into the ultimate skill in-game called “Inferno Skill.” Of course, there’s also a nod to the Flame Demon theme, but more importantly, it reflects our passion for delivering intense, fiery battles.

4Gamer:
How did this project come about?

Lee Dong-Won:
Today’s game market is fiercely competitive globally—not just on development power, but also on delivering high-quality stories and worlds. Japanese anime already possesses proven global fanbases and highly validated narratives as assets. “Tougen Ankki,” with its distinctive characters and rich world-building, stood out to us as a perfect IP for adaptation.

Kim Pil-Jong:
At the time game development was confirmed, the original manga had already sold over 3 million copies (※). By then, anime production had also been decided. We felt this moment was unique—our chance to collaborate now.

※According to Akita Shoten’s latest update, it has surpassed 4 million copies.

4Gamer:
When adapting an anime into a game, what did you focus on?

Lee Un-Je:
Our primary goal was to ensure that even someone unfamiliar with “Tougen Ankki” would find the game enjoyable. Even in early development stages, we prioritized testing battle fun and engagement. This way, both fans of the manga or anime and newcomers discovering “Tougen Ankki” for the first time can have a great experience—and ultimately become more immersed in the story and world.

Lee Dong-Won:
I focused heavily on recreating the emotional essence of the TV anime. From character tone and facial expressions to battle actions and presentation, we made sure not to miss any subtle details fans would recognize. Our aim is for longtime readers or viewers to say, “This is exactly what I know as Tougen Ankki.”

Kim Pil-Jong:
I also worked closely on aligning with the anime’s tone. At the same time, I asked: “How should we best express each character’s personality and abilities?” To fully leverage 3D graphics’ strengths, innovative approaches in visuals and effects were essential. Thanks to this 3D differentiation, we can deliver the original work’s charm while offering unique gaming experiences. We’ve experimented extensively with capturing characters from various angles—this has been a major challenge but also an invaluable growth opportunity for our team.

4Gamer:
Have the development team actually watched the manga and anime?

Lee Un-Je:
Of course. Before starting development, we all read the original manga, and since July, we’ve been watching the TV anime every week without fail.

Lee Dong-Won:
Every member of our development team has thoroughly gone through both the manga and the anime. To ensure accurate interpretation of characters and storylines, we analyze character emotions in each scene and incorporate those insights into our development process.

Kim Pil-Jong:
One regret: while we’ve verified all necessary content for game development, we decided that reading too far ahead might cause confusion or misinterpretation of characters and stories. So, even though we know the anime will get more exciting as it progresses, we’ve agreed to avoid watching episodes beyond Tokyo-Nerima until our own game development can proceed—just so we don’t spoil future surprises. It’s frustrating because we really want to watch!

4Gamer:
Exactly—going too far ahead could lead to unintended interpretations based on prior knowledge. That’s why it’s important to present characters and stories in their optimal state. Speaking of which, how is “Tougen Ankki” doing globally?

Lee Un-Je:
Right after the anime aired, it ranked #1 on Netflix Japan, #5 in the Global TOP 10 (non-English TV series category), #5 in South Korea, #6 in the U.S., and #7 worldwide. It also achieved #1 on Crunchyroll in America and #2 in the UK—clearly showing its massive global appeal. In Japan, it’s widely supported across video platforms; the anime even topped the “Summer Anime Recording Rankings.” Strong fan support and repeated viewing demand are evident. The show trended on X (formerly Twitter), proving strong social media virality. Going forward, we hope our game presentation at TGS 2025 will further boost this momentum.

Can players team up demons and peaches?

4Gamer:
Let’s revisit: what are the unique features exclusive to this game?

Lee Dong-Won:
As mentioned earlier, we’re faithfully recreating the TV anime story while also introducing original scenarios and characters. Though not yet revealed at TGS 2025, we’re committed to delivering content that meets expectations—naturally fitting within the existing world while offering fresh fun. Our goal is a “new but seamless experience.”

4Gamer:
That’s certainly important when adding new storylines. How do you plan to present the narrative?

Kim Pil-Jong:
For storytelling, we’re not just showing character illustrations and dialogue—we’ve aimed for animation-like presentation. We designed it so lip-sync automatically matches Japanese voice lines, and scenes that can’t be fully conveyed through dialogue alone are given dedicated cutscenes to recreate the anime’s atmosphere.

4Gamer:
It’s clearly not just a slideshow-style approach. Now, could you tell us about the core gameplay?

Lee Dong-Won:
This is an accessible and satisfying turn-based battle system. Players assemble teams from their collected characters and fight using cards drawn as hands during battles. The strategic core lies in “character skills” combined with card combinations—where choices like card order significantly impact gameplay, not just raw character strength.

Thumbnail image No. 016 / What makes “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno” so authentic? Insights from the creators of the game. A 3D turn-based RPG, but how much is it truly “Tougen Ankki”? [TGS2025] 【PR】

4Gamer:
So the highlight is definitely the battle system?

Kim Pil-Jong:
Yes. The basic rule: match card patterns to character skills and align icon background colors around them to unlock powerful abilities. Simple mechanics, but full of strategic depth.

Lee Dong-Won:
Additionally, battles are divided into “Combat Unit (Main)” and “Support Unit (Support).” While the main unit fights frontline combat, support units influence offense and defense through buffs and supportive skills.

4Gamer:
Combat and Support Units—clearly rooted in original elements. When it comes to IP games, character design is always crucial. How about visuals, voice acting, and in-game mechanics? Are “Inferno Skills” based on demonic blood corruption and peach bacteria?

□ Demon Agency: 9 characters

  • Ichinose Shiki
  • Mudano Muno
  • Koukizaki Jin
  • Byobu-ga-Ura Hanami
  • Yuzuriha Sujio

  • Momomiya Toguri
  • Momokusa Hana
  • Momobu Manaka
  • Ichinose Gouji

※Additional characters from the “Nerima Arc”—not yet appearing in anime, so not listed here.

Lee Dong-Won:
We maintained the anime-style design while ensuring harmony with 3D models. The “Inferno Skills” are based on each character’s blood corruption and bacteria traits. Voice acting uses original anime voice actors performing full-voice performances to deliver exactly what fans expect. Every detail has been refined through dozens of revisions for high quality—please take a look! Also, we’ll be adding new exclusive voices specifically recorded for the game.

Lee Un-Je:
Full-voice was essential to faithfully convey each character’s personality and emotions. Fans will enjoy familiar voice actors from the anime, while newcomers can better grasp character traits through voice acting. Cutscenes recreating iconic anime moments are a must-listen due to the stellar performances.

Kim Pil-Jong:
In terms of art, we focused on natural “eye contact” motions so characters feel alive and as if they’re truly with you. We’ve enhanced skill animations from various angles for visual flair, and included details often omitted in games due to resource constraints—like motion based on attack/defense direction, guarding, and knockback—to boost visual enjoyment.

4Gamer:
Having reactions based on direction is quite detailed. Incidentally, “Tougen Ankki” features intense conflict between demons and peaches—but looking at the game screen, they’re actually teaming up in the same party. So can we say this game forms a dream team of demons and peaches? It might be story-wise questionable, but are there no barriers to their team composition?

Lee Dong-Won:
Yes, you can form teams with both demons and peaches. While the main storyline and battle content center on conflict between the two factions, we’ve preserved that world view while adding game-specific freedom: allowing any combination of demons and peaches in your party. However, some content restricts this—such as certain areas requiring only demons to fight or only peaches receiving buffs.

4Gamer:
So it depends on the content.

4Gamer:
Extremely speaking—could a team composed entirely of peaches play?

Lee Dong-Won:
Yes, absolutely.

4Gamer:
What about character updates after release? The game features characters with rarity levels of R/SR/SSR, and many—including “Sister Hanami” from Byobu-ga-Ura or “Yabura’s Furious Demon Anger Hysteria”—change abilities based on story progress. So how do you plan this: will new characters be released in line with the anime (story) progression? Or intentionally kept separate to better showcase character appeal?

Lee Dong-Won:
Generally, we introduce different versions of the same character based on their appearance and role in the TV anime—completely distinct in impression. Due to game mechanics, we can differentiate them by attributes like intellect, madness, senses, exploration, emotion, luck, or roles as frontline vs support units. Also, we’ll unlock additional story content through character progression.

4Gamer:
Speaking of that—the demo version includes characters only up to the “Nerima Arc,” and the anime is also nearing completion of this arc. So after release, will you run the game based on “TV anime scope + original scenarios”? Or include content beyond the anime’s current range? What are your long-term service plans?

Lee Dong-Won:
We plan to operate with the TV anime’s story scope and additional original scenarios. We won’t be providing content from manga arcs not covered in the anime.

4Gamer:
Understood. Lastly, what characters do each of you personally like?

Lee Un-Je:
Suisei Nishikawa!

Lee Dong-Won:
Mudano Muno. He has strong charisma and excellent leadership skills—his abilities are flashy and captivating. Definitely my favorite.

Kim Pil-Jong:
Koukizaki Jin. I like how he looks calm on the outside but has a soft, tsundere personality inside. His skill with various weapons during blood corruption is spectacular—he’s also one of my favorites.

4Gamer:
How complete is the game at this stage?

Lee Dong-Won:
Development progress is currently about 70–80%.

4Gamer:
Is it available on mobile and PC?

Lee Dong-Won:
Yes. We’ll launch the mobile version first, then deliver the Steam version as soon as possible. It’s cross-platform—players can share data between mobile and PC.

4Gamer:
When is the official release expected?

Lee Dong-Won:
We can’t disclose exact dates yet, but we’ll thoroughly gather fan feedback before launching Japan service first, followed by global rollout.

4Gamer:
Japan-first launch—why is that?

Lee Dong-Won:
For our global expansion, we don’t just focus on language and platform support—we’ve carefully considered local operational strategies, regulatory compliance, approval systems, and user communication for each region. This policy respects regional differences. However, with “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno,” character and story completion is paramount—so Japanese fans’ expectations and preferences serve as crucial guidance for us. Thus, we’re prioritizing close engagement with our domestic audience first, incorporating their feedback and suggestions into development.

4Gamer:
That’s great news for players in Japan! Lastly, could you share a message for “Tougen Ankki” fans and those eager to try this game?

Lee Un-Je:
In “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno,” we want fans to enjoy the same charm they saw in the anime—but now through gameplay. We’re also ensuring that newcomers who’ve never experienced “Tougen Ankki” before will find it purely enjoyable as a game, down to every detail. This isn’t just an anime adaptation—it’s our challenge to add a new layer of fun to the “Tougen Ankki” IP with RPG mechanics. We’ll create the best possible game in response to your tremendous expectations.

Lee Dong-Won:
We’ve developed this game with fans’ feelings and hopes at heart. Going forward, we’ll conduct playtests to interact directly with you—making sure your voices are fully reflected into the game. Please give us warm support as we embark on this new journey of “Tougen Ankki Crimson Inferno”—we’d be honored if you joined us in shaping it together.

Kim Pil-Jong:
Our art team is working hard to deliver rich 3D visuals that fully capture the charm of the TV anime. Beyond that, we’re bringing fresh fun and emotional impact through unique game-specific expressions and presentations!
