On a nationwide scale entering October, September 29 to October 5, 2025, 326 articles were published on 4Gamer. October is Nobel Prize season—this week promises an exciting series of announcements from the Physiology or Medicine Prize on the 6th through the Economics Prize on the 13th. I myself am hoping that this year might finally be my lucky one, but what do you think? Even a consolation prize, a participation award, or a “booby prize” would make me happy.

The 4Gamer editorial team has finally wrapped up the chaos of Tokyo Game Show 2025. Whether you attended in person or watched via livestream, great job! As mentioned in this article, the four-day event attracted a total of 263,101 visitors, falling short of both the all-time high from Tokyo Game Show 2018 (298,690 attendees) and last year’s figure of 274,739. Though today’s era makes livestreams commonplace, comparing attendance numbers alone might not be entirely fair. Tokyo Game Show 2026 is scheduled for a record-breaking five-day run—our reporting team has already started feeling drained, but the event will arrive in about 360 days. With new console rumors expected to dominate this season, let’s keep our hopes high. After all, one year passes in the blink of an eye.

At this point, 4Gamer has published nearly 500 articles related to TGS 2025, with several making it into the top of our access rankings. While some readers may have struggled to read them all, it’s never too late—click on the link below and start exploring your favorite pieces.

Autumn evenings have arrived, and the cool weather is perfect for diving into gaming—but if you’re out of games to play, 4Gamer’s Sales Information section can help! Hehehe.

As reported in this article, Steam’s seasonal sale, the Steam Autumn Sale, kicked off on September 30th, with major publishers joining in. Titles like Ubisoft’s Anno 1800 went down to 90% off, while the PC version of Stellar Blade, just released in June, also entered its discounted price range—typical for a sale that leaves wallets dangerously loose. Indie games from earlier were even available for under ¥500, making it hard to believe they’re real video games. Amazing!

So, let’s take a look back at this week’s highlights from 4Gamer and the global gaming scene—top 10 access rankings and other notable pieces.

Note: PlayStation abbreviated as PS, Nintendo Switch as Switch, smartphones as smartphone, etc.

Top 10 Access Rankings from Last Week

The top spot last week went to an article introducing games available for purchase in the “Classic Catalog” service—part of PlayStation Plus—which allows non-PS Plus members to buy select titles originally released on PS1, PS2, and PSP. These classics are now playable on PS4 or PS5.

Thumbnail image for Gallery No. 036 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap, September 29–October 5, 2025

According to the article, while the “Classic Catalog” is only available to PS Plus Premium subscribers, many of its titles eventually become available for standalone purchase after a certain period (sometimes even simultaneously). However, these announcements aren’t widely publicized—so most readers may not be aware. While this might seem like old news to some, our editor Hiroshi Arai was surprised and excited by the revelation, prompting him to share it here.

The article skyrocketed to number one after being published on Saturday—suggesting many readers may have been as unaware as our editor. Titles like “ARMORED CORE,” “Wild Arms,” and “SIREN” are among the intriguing classics listed; check them out if you’re thinking, “Oh! So that’s how it works!”

Second place went to the latest installment of “Cellular Analysis of Mobile Games”, a popular series based on data from Sensor Tower, headquartered in San Francisco. According to this week’s report, Monster Strike, the hit hunting RPG by MIXI (available on iOS and Android), claimed first place in Japan’s domestic revenue rankings from September 18 to 24. Since its launch in 2013, Monster Strike has consistently ranked high—this time due to multiple gacha events like “★5 and above only gacha,” “Monster Generation,” and “MonColle DX.”

Third place was a news item from Bandai announcing the release of “The Legend of Zelda Weapon Collection” in February 2026. This collectible figurine series features weapons and shields from The Legend of Zelda franchise, including iconic pieces like the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Royal Twin Swords, totaling nine items. Priced at ¥495 (tax included), they’ll be available in candy sections nationwide—can’t wait! The scale isn’t clear, but you probably won’t be able to swing them around safely. Top 10 Access Rankings (TGS 2025 Edition)

While we usually bring you the title rankings, this week let’s take a look at which TGS 2025-related articles received the most attention. Why? Well, why not?

The top 10 reports from TGS 2025: First place was an article titled “You can get up to 3,000 points at the Google Play booth! Platinum and Diamond members should go all the way in!”—a report from the Google Play booth where attendees could collect exclusive merchandise and attraction tickets, especially for Platinum and Diamond members. True to form for a tech giant like Google.

Interestingly, this same article also ranked highest in our 2024 TGS coverage “Google Play Booth Report”—suggesting readers are drawn to the most valuable content. But since TGS has already concluded, it’s too late for this year—keep your eyes on 2026!

Thumbnail image for Gallery No. 031 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap, September 29–October 5, 2025

Second place was an article highlighting the attachment device displayed at the AKFury booth. This accessory adds shoulder and back buttons to controllers like the DualSense or Xbox Wireless Controller, allowing you to add extra controls without disassembling your controller—very clever.

The devices shown were the “Spider 5” for DualSense and the “Spider XS” for Xbox Wireless Controllers. Though our reporter didn’t fully grasp how it worked, the Spider 5 just requires plugging into the USB Type-C port of a DualSense, with an included locking mechanism preventing slippage during intense gameplay. Button settings can be adjusted directly from the Spider 5 side.

Third place was another hardware piece: a report from the MSY booth at TGS 2025, featuring their product brand “GRAPHT”. The highlight was their new display using quantum dot technology—two displays were placed side by side for comparison: one with a quantum dot LCD panel, the other with a quantum dot OLED panel. Both looked fantastic, quite “quantum” indeed.

Though we wrote this as if we understood it all, honestly, our reporter still doesn’t fully grasp what quantum dots are. Maybe they use quantum entanglement or emotional entanglement—something like that? Either way, the cutting-edge tech drew significant attention from hardcore gamers.

Notable Articles This Week

This week, articles ending with “[TGS 2025]” dominated the spotlight—but there were plenty of other noteworthy pieces as well. Trust me; I wouldn’t lie! Look into my eyes (← squinting).

Activision Blizzard’s military FPS “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” finally launched its open beta test, scheduled to begin on October 3, 2025. The game kicked off with the annual preview event “CoD Next”, held in Las Vegas from September 29–30. We were invited—so naturally, we attended.

Thumbnail image for Gallery No. 025 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap, September 29–October 5, 2025

As the latest entry in the popular “Black Ops” series, this game’s campaign mode is set 10 years after Call of Duty: Black Ops II, where David Mason and his team confront a terrorist conspiracy. As reported here, the event revealed an overwhelming number of new elements—new maps, game modes, weapons, and systems—making it hard to remember them all. The details became clearer than ever. Notably, this is the first time a map based on Japan appears in the series.

Thumbnail image for Gallery No. 026 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap, September 29–October 5, 2025

Additionally, we published a report here on playing the “Zombie Mode” map “Ashes of the Damned.” The cooperative mode “Nazi Zombies!”—originally a hidden feature in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, reportedly added by developers as an afterthought—became so popular that it evolved into a staple of the series. Everyone loves zombies.

We also reported on Hamilton releasing a limited edition watch, “Khaki Field Auto Call of Duty 38mm,” in collaboration with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Fans should definitely check this out.

On October 1st, the alien-themed FPS “Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition” (available on PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) was released. Survios, a North American developer known for VR games, first launched the VR version of Alien: Rogue Incursion in 2024. This new “Evolved Edition” is the non-VR version and covers events between the original Alien film and its sequel.

Thumbnail image for Gallery No. 029 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap, September 29–October 5, 2025

Interestingly, the English word “Alien” means “foreigner” or “extraterrestrial,” but when people hear “Alien,” they instantly think of that furious, black, slimy creature. Similarly, “Xenomorph”—a term coined by Lieutenant Gorman in Aliens using Greek prefixes—originally referred to any alien species, but now exclusively describes that same terrifying being.

Based on the Steam store page, the game supports Japanese interface and subtitles. The original VR version won numerous awards, and its graphics look impressive. If you want to fight that furious, black, slimy creature, check out this article for details.
