Hello! This is Yui, a talent currently active in the entertainment industry.

I attended Tokyo Game Show again this year. Every year, I dedicate my life to visiting all my favorite booths during the gaps in my TGS schedule. Fortunately, this year I managed to fully conquer every booth that caught my interest (nothing hurts more than later seeing an SNS post and thinking “Oh no! That game was here too?”).

So for this series, I’m sharing a report on exactly what I saw and played during my visits.

At the NHK × Games booth, I signed a panel for the Game Genome episode!

I’ve had a request to feature this game! I also added Idolmaster and My Hero Academia…

Square Enix

“HD-2D Version of Dragon Quest I & II” – After trying it on the first day, I was so impressed that I thought: “I have to try the other one too!” (The demo allowed players to choose either I or II). So I came back the next day for another play session.

Dragon Quest I had an abundance of new content—Candata appears, tiny medals can be found… It’s almost as if it’s a completely new game! The depth feels so expanded that I’m getting the impression this could genuinely be considered a full remake. Back in my days, I played III → IV → I, so experiencing Dragon Quest without companions felt refreshingly novel again. Yes—this sense of vulnerability is exactly what makes adventure truly special.

Dragon Quest II featured Prince Samaltria’s bumbling character perfectly matching the original image—I was thrilled! The idea that he might suddenly show up saying “Oh man, I’ve been looking for you!” felt spot-on. Their playful sibling banter also looked lively and fun.

People were raving about how high the fan service level was from Ryuou-sama!

At the Square Enix booth, I also tried out “KILLER INN”—I was amazed by the 24-player simultaneous gameplay!

Rain98

I played the indie game “Rain98.” The protagonist gets transported from 2025 back to 1998 and meets a mysterious high school girl. This heroine is straight out of anime from around that era—exactly the type of “sekaikyou” (world-building) character that hits my personal sweet spot perfectly. Her condescending gaze toward the protagonist is absolutely irresistible.

Seeing her in uniform with loose socks, casually smoking a cigarette—it’s hard not to get flustered. Come to think of it, back then anime and dramas freely depicted underage characters smoking… But beyond just replicating 1998 culture and trends, this game perfectly re-creates the era’s decadent atmosphere—right down to the air around it. It gave me a strange sense of nostalgia, reviving the anxiety and loneliness I once felt during that time.

At the booth entrance stood stacked CRT televisions! Pure late Heisei-era end-of-the-century vibe! Image Gallery No.014 thumbnail / Yui’s “Hoe Hoe Game Speech”: Episode 250 “Tokyo Game Show 2025 On-Site Playthrough Report”

PLAYISM

Even “8th Exit Uncle,” Japan’s busiest uncle, was there! Image Gallery No.017 thumbnail / Yui’s “Hoe Hoe Game Speech”: Episode 250 “Tokyo Game Show 2025 On-Site Playthrough Report”

Watching the anime PV for “Gnossia” on a large monitor at the PLAYISM booth, I couldn’t help but get teary-eyed.

Back when it first launched, I even planned a live stream on my YouTube channel “Yui Channel,” inviting members of the development team (the “peti depot”) to talk about behind-the-scenes stories (link). I’m such a huge fan that seeing “Gnossia” now receiving massive media exposure filled my heart with emotion. Which loop will be featured in the anime? Can’t wait!

PARCO GAMES

At the PARCO GAMES booth, which I’ve personally been watching closely, I tried “The Berlin Apartment.”

Starting with a romantic and pure moment—a letter from a paper airplane flying through the window, writing a reply to send back across the way—it instantly evokes warmth. When the scene shifts to 1933 in the same apartment, looking out the window makes you tense immediately. Berlin in 1933 was an era of upheaval—the Nazi flag flies proudly, and it looks completely different from the previous 1898 setting. This isn’t just a game for enjoying calm ambiance—it promises deep human drama.

Heard it’s been six years since the last new release—so I came to try “TINY METAL 2!”

A photo spot exactly like the one in “Coffee Talk”!
