Square Enix is exhibiting “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE” (available on Nintendo Switch 2 / Xbox Series X|S) at the ongoing Tokyo Game Show 2025, which began on September 25, 2025.
At the booth, visitors can try out both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions. Additionally, a photo spot featuring a life-sized sculpture of cards from “Magic: The Gathering – FINAL FANTASY” has been set up, drawing constant crowds.

In this first installment of the “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE” series, players follow Cloud—once a SOLDIER—alongside Barrett and Tifa from the resistance group Avalanche, as well as the mysterious flower seller Aerith, in their adventures set against the backdrop of the massive metropolis Midgar.
The fact that this title is now being released on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store for Windows carries significant meaning. At the same time as its announcement, Square Enix revealed that all remaining entries leading to the series’ conclusion will be available across multiple platforms—making it possible for even more players to experience this story.
This time, I had the chance to try out the handheld mode on Nintendo Switch 2. The demo allowed players to choose their starting point: one from the very beginning of the game, another just before Chapter 1’s “Battle with Guard Scorpion,” and a third immediately after escaping from the First Mako Reactor in Chapter 2. I experienced combat and story segments from both the “Guard Scorpion Battle” and the “Immediately After Escaping the First Mako Reactor.”

Upon actual play, the high-quality graphics of this title are fully supported by the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware—resulting in extremely smooth performance. Load times are short and the screen is easy to view. One thing to note: the placement of confirm and cancel buttons differs from PS4/PS5 versions (they’re reversed), so newcomers should pay attention here.

The speed and excitement of combat remain unchanged. The Guard Scorpion battle is a challenging early-game encounter, but one that delivers intense action and satisfying payoff.
For those about to experience this game for the first time at the demo booth: with all due humility, I’d like to offer one piece of advice—don’t neglect blocking or dodging. You cannot simply push through against Guard Scorpion… May your journey surpass even my own past failures when I was thoroughly defeated on PS4.

Also worth noting: although not visible during this demo, “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE” includes the story of Yuffie—“FF7R EPISODE INTERmission”, which was previously only available in the PS5 version.
