Sharkmob’s upcoming extraction shooter “Exoborne” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) was available for hands-on play at the Level Infinite booth during Tokyo Game Show 2025, and we’re sharing our impressions from that experience.

The game is currently running its second playtest from September 26 to October 7, and we participated in the test beforehand before trying it out. The demo version has all enhancement options unlocked, making it easy to fully experience the game’s appeal even within a short time.
A staff member I played with mentioned that they particularly liked a mod which highlights items around the point where a grapple is fired—finding it both useful and enjoyable Thumbnail image No.001 / Experience the exhilarating movement of “Exoborne,” a sci-fi packed extraction shooter featuring powered exoskeletons, robots, and weather-controlling towers – TGS2025
Sharkmob, the studio behind this title, was founded by former staff from the “Division” series. “Exoborne” is set in a fictional American city named Colton—devastated by massive weather shifts—and follows survivors fighting for survival in an extraction shooter format.
The map features large towers capable of manipulating weather. From these towers, thick cables stretch across the map like veins Thumbnail image No.004 / Experience the exhilarating movement of “Exoborne,” a sci-fi packed extraction shooter featuring powered exoskeletons, robots, and weather-controlling towers – TGS2025 Thumbnail image No.002 / Experience the exhilarating movement of “Exoborne,” a sci-fi packed extraction shooter featuring powered exoskeletons, robots, and weather-controlling towers – TGS2025
A core element of both gameplay and narrative is the powered exoskeleton “Exo-rig”. This exoskeleton enables humans to endure extreme weather while enhancing mobility and combat capabilities.
The Exo-rig functions similarly to character classes, allowing players to choose from three distinct types: “Codiac,” “Viper,” or “Kestrel.”
Codiac excels in defense and gains armor and shields by continuously running—serving as a tank. Viper specializes in stealth tactics using optical camouflage for ambushes. Kestrel is highly mobile, capable of jetting upward and hovering.
I personally favored Kestrel, enjoying the game’s verticality and three-dimensional movement across maps with many elevation changes. With no fall damage, players can use gliders for long-distance travel or grappling hooks to move horizontally and vertically—making mobility even more dynamic when using Kestrel’s ability to launch high into the air.
Be careful not to dive straight into a tornado while gliding—it results in instant death Thumbnail image No.018 / Experience the exhilarating movement of “Exoborne,” a sci-fi packed extraction shooter featuring powered exoskeletons, robots, and weather-controlling towers – TGS2025
However, as a true extraction shooter, dying during a match means losing all carried items. Even while moving swiftly, players may unexpectedly encounter powerful enemies—so complacency is dangerous. While weaker foes are easily defeated, overconfidence can be fatal.
Despite being casual and easy to pick up, the game delivers genuine tension typical of extraction shooters. The maps also include puzzle elements—such as needing to restore power by fixing a disconnected cable leading to a generator before entering facilities resembling research labs.

Though unlocking upgrades may take some effort, the game rewards players with more access to enhancement materials and valuable items. However, if you spend too much time on one task, the timer will expire—after which a massive storm arrives, resulting in instant death. Be sure to escape via the nearest extraction point.
The maps also feature collection elements that deepen the story and world-building.

The high mobility delivers exhilarating sensations, while the risks of enemy encounters and item loss create a dynamic tension—offering both intense moments and well-paced thrills. The stunning fusion of natural scenery and machinery, combined with changing weather conditions in each match, makes you eager to jump into another round.
