“Alamo” is an action RPG originally released in 1986 for the MSX platform. Players take on the role of a lone man who has crash-landed on a planet, and must explore the world devastated by a lost advanced civilization in order to escape.
The game features a quarter-view perspective, with vast maps composed of blocks representing terrain. Because everything looks similar due to this block-based design, players often find themselves getting disoriented without realizing it. It’s therefore recommended to keep track of terrain features and item locations while moving through the world.

Upon entering dungeons, the camera switches to a top-down view, improving visibility. However, complex mazes and attacks from turrets await—offering an engaging challenge in exploration.
Combat uses a classic action RPG style: direct physical attacks. Players can also fire guns using a key. Taking damage reduces your health gauge; resting on the ground restores it. Defeating enemies grants experience points, which accumulate toward level-ups.

【About “Alamo”】
This title was originally released in 1986 for the MSX platform. Players assume the role of a lone man who crash-landed on a planet, and must explore the world devastated by a lost advanced civilization with the ultimate goal of escaping.
The game uses a quarter-view perspective. Terrain is represented using blocks, resulting in expansive maps that can be quite large. Due to this block-based design, different areas often look very similar—making it easy to become disoriented without realizing it. It’s therefore advisable to keep track of terrain features and item locations as you explore. When entering dungeons, the camera switches to a top-down view, improving visibility. However, complex mazes and attacks from turrets await, offering an engaging and challenging adventure.
Combat uses the familiar “body slam” style common in action RPGs. Guns can be fired using a designated key. Defeating enemies increases your experience gauge; once full, you level up. The gameplay is intuitive and highly accessible, making it very easy to enjoy. Note that the vertical bar on the right side of the screen shows HP—when this reaches zero, the game ends (but resting on the ground restores health).
Explore a planet built from cubes. What lies hidden in the depths of this dead advanced civilization?
