At the Sega/Atlus booth during Tokyo Game Show 2025, held from September 25 to 28, 2025, Japan’s first software company showcased their upcoming action RPG “Kyōran Makaismu” (available on Nintendo Switch 2 / PS5 / Nintendo Switch) as a playable demo, with the game scheduled for release on January 19, 2026.
This title is being developed under the leadership of Shunsuke Minohata, character design by Takehito Harada, and music composed by Tenpei Sato—a team that strongly evokes memories of the beloved “Disgaea” series. The story centers on a mercenary named Nue and his rookie demon lord client, Tishiel, as they battle to reclaim a stolen pringle… already radiating unmistakable “Disgaea vibes.”

However, unlike the series’ traditional simulation RPG roots, this title is an action RPG—specifically one where players fight solo against hordes of enemies. During our hands-on session, we experienced three different stages controlling Nue.

The game features seven familiar weapon types: fists, swords, spears, axes, bows, guns, and staves. Each weapon changes attack animations based on equipment. While basic combos of light and heavy attacks form the foundation for defeating enemies, each weapon also includes unique special techniques. For example, with a sword, players can unleash iconic moves such as “Ichimonji Slash,” “Tornado Break Blade,” and “Heavenly Shōsui Cut.”
Players can strategically use four different special techniques, each with its own cooldown period.
Some powerful techniques, like the “Heavenly Shōsui Cut,” display target lock-on and indicate how many enemies can be hit. After a cut-in animation, these attacks deal massive damage.
The monsters featured in this game—such as the Prinies—are instantly recognizable. No further explanation needed. This game could very well be called an “action version of Disgaea.” From UI to BGM, every aspect unmistakably carries on the Disgaea legacy. That said, transitioning into action gameplay gives fresh life to familiar monsters’ varied movements—watching a cat-mata or succubus in motion? Absolutely worth seeing.
The trial version features the monster you wanted to see as a boss.
While this demo primarily highlighted action elements, players can level up to 9999 and deal damage exceeding one billion. The game also boasts substantial content for completionists. Familiar series staples like reincarnation, item realms, character realms, and “Majin Change” are widely implemented. Though not a genre shift from past entries (though it is), we eagerly await further details on what this new chapter of Disgaea will truly become.
