Recap of 4Gamer's Week: Weekly 4Gamer, September 22–28, 2025

The sound of lamenting summer echoes around us. From September 22 to 28, 2025, 4Gamer published a total of 440 articles—quite a lot. As the sky grows higher and red dragonflies fly by, I feel a certain melancholy sensing the end of summer, much like how elementary school kids might feel blue when summer vacation ends. Hehe.

Now, Japan’s largest gaming event, “Tokyo Game Show 2025,” kicked off on September 25 and concluded successfully yesterday. With a record-breaking number of participating companies—1,136—and exhibition booths totaling 4,157 across 47 countries, the TGS set an all-time high in scale. As mentioned in this article, general public days will expand to five days starting next year—already a bit ahead of schedule.

Though opinions abound, both domestically and internationally, suggesting that offline events are obsolete or that streaming is sufficient (and indeed E3 has ended), TGS continues to grow. It’s clear that games still thrive best in festival-like environments. I’m not saying this because I know—I just feel it.

Additionally, TGS 2025 received significant coverage from general media outlets. Japan’s game exports currently stand at a total of 580 billion yen—second only to the automotive industry—and the government aims to increase that figure to 2 trillion yen by 2030, including anime.

Well, the conversation has gotten quite expansive—but anyway, 4Gamer has published numerous articles related to TGS 2025, including play reports, booth reviews, and event coverage. The official catchphrase for TGS 2025 is “an infinite playground you can never fully explore,” while our own content feels like “infinite articles you can’t possibly read all.” Be sure to click the links below and search out something interesting.

Official TGS 2025 Website

Speaking of TGS 2025, on its opening day—September 25—the Sony Interactive Entertainment aired their information program “State of Play.” It was quite the surprise to see it arrive right at this moment!

The event featured the latest trailer for Insomniac Games’ highly anticipated title “Marvel’s Wolverine” and EA’s new “Battlefield 6,” which aims to return to its roots. Additionally, the release date for “Nioh 3” (available on PC / PS5) was officially announced—packed with information, as expected from a dedicated info showcase.

Thumbnail image No.038 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

Personally, I was stunned by the announcement of “Deus Ex Remastered,” a remaster of the 2000 PC release. Originally created under the direction of renowned game developer Warren Spector, this groundbreaking FPS with strong RPG elements offered unprecedented freedom and captured a cyberpunk atmosphere—truly revolutionary at the time. I remember being deeply immersed in it, though I’d mostly forgotten about it until now—I’m eager to give it another go. And yes, a PC version is also planned. For further details, check out this summary article we’ve published.

And so, somewhat reminiscent of a party’s aftermath, let’s enthusiastically take another look back at last week in 4Gamer and the world of gaming.

※For brevity, PlayStation is abbreviated as PS, Nintendo Switch as Switch, and smartphones as smartphone.

[Top 10 Most-Visited Articles from Last Week]

The top story last week was news that a special website had opened to commemorate “UNDERTALE”’s 10th anniversary. Originally released in 2015 for PC and Mac, “UNDERTALE” is an RPG created almost entirely by Toby Fox—a developer with little prior experience—telling the tale of a human child who falls into the underground world and must escape while encountering various monsters.

Thumbnail image No.029 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

The game is marketed as a “gentle RPG where no one needs to die,” and while combat with monsters is possible, peaceful resolutions are often achievable through dialogue—making it unique. Despite simple graphics, the game received widespread acclaim upon release, winning numerous awards and being ported across many platforms.

The special website promises a unique game celebrating the 10th anniversary, drawing significant reader interest.

UNDERTALE 10th Anniversary Special Website

The second most-visited article covered the announcement during “State of Play” regarding free-play titles for PlayStation Plus members in October and new additions to the game catalog.

According to the announcement, the free-play titles include “Alan Wake 2”, “Goat Simulator 3”, and “COCOON”. This means you can explore a rural American town in another world, rampage as a goat, or journey through various realms with an insect-like protagonist—available starting October 7.

Thumbnail image No.032 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

Third place went to news of a collaboration between TiMi Studio Group’s tactical shooter “Delta Force” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / iOS / Android) and KONAMI’s stealth action game “METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S).

Currently, the collaboration is set to begin “soon,” and only that it will include a “Bandana” and “Cardboard”, as well as a legendary voice act themed around the Metal Gear series’ main character, “Naked Snake.” Further details are expected soon—stay tuned.

Although “Monster Hunter Outlands” hasn’t seen much new information since its official announcement in 2024, this week brought news of a closed beta test (available at this link) and confirmed participation in both a stage event and hands-on demo at TGS 2025—finally revealing more details. Fans are eager for the official release date.

“007 First Light,” the new title from Danish developer IO Interactive, known for the “Hitman” series, ranked eighth. IO Interactive first announced this project under the codename “Project 007” in 2020 (related article). After a long silence—so long that rumors of cancellation circulated near my vicinity—it was finally revealed at the IOI SHOWCASE event in June 2025, followed by a steady stream of new information. At TGS 2025, a premiere event was held at a movie theater in Makuhari, and an interview with the developers was also published. 4Gamer even launched a dedicated site for it.

Thumbnail image No.027 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

“007 First Light” focuses on young James Bond’s journey as he joins MI6 and becomes a member of the 00 Section. For those unaware, “007” is pronounced “Double-O Seven” in English, but Yosuke Yodogawa once referred to it as “Zero Zero Seven,” so I’ll follow suit—though honestly, who cares?

While Bond-themed games often vary widely in quality, this one has been crafted with care. Its release is scheduled for March 2026.

While 4Gamer is heavily focused on TGS 2025 coverage, we’ve also published a variety of other articles. It’s impressive how much work everyone does—though I’m speaking from an “I’m the boss” perspective.

Activision Blizzard’s latest “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Xbox One) has a developer interview available at this link, while the “Battlefield 6” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) has a pre-play report at this link. 2025 sees the release of two major military FPS titles—both are classics I’ve played for years, so naturally, they’re on my radar. Though lately, age-related motion sickness from FPS games has become a concern… but then again, getting killed immediately upon starting is nothing new.

Thumbnail image No.022 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” is set for release on November 14, while “Battlefield 6” launches on October 10—the countdown has officially begun. Be sure to check out the articles.

Thumbnail image No.023 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

Additionally, we published a play report on “Ghost of Yōtei” (released October 2), having played it early—on September 25. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions in Seattle, the studio behind the acclaimed 2020 hit “Ghost of Tsushima.”

Thumbnail image No.024 / Weekly 4Gamer: Looking back on the past week, September 22–28, 2025

While “Ghost of Tsushima” cleverly used the historically underrepresented 13th-century Mongol invasion as its theme, this long-awaited sequel is set in Hokkaido three years after the Battle of Sekigahara, a period with little historical record. Intriguing.

According to the article, it features a world that evokes both samurai dramas and Westerns—its creative director cited strong influence from “The Unforgiven” (the 2018 remake starring Ken Watanabe). That piques my interest: Hokkaido does have a Western-like feel, and I’m fond of “Golden Kamuy.”
