At the Norwegian Games booth during Tokyo Game Show 2025, Hyper Games unveiled a world premiere demo of their upcoming 2026 title, “[Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth (tentative)].” The charming booth design—featuring characters waving from a large “Moomin House” window—captivated visitors, and the hands-on play area was especially busy.

This game is a puzzle adventure developed by the same team behind “Sune: Melody of Moominvalley.” It tells a poignant and heartfelt story about Moomintroll, who awakens alone from hibernation during winter. As he ventures out into the snowy season on his own, meeting new friends and helping those in need, he grows alongside the beautiful yet unforgiving natural world.
The world premiere demo allowed players to experience a quest where they carry a fallen dog through the snow to safety. This hands-on session effectively introduced basic controls and gameplay mechanics while giving attendees a glimpse of the game’s charm. Players used an axe to cut down fallen trees, shoveled snow with a shovel, and shook off packed snow from plants—all while transporting the dog. The controls were intuitive, making it accessible to players across all age groups and allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the story.

After trying it out, we noticed many similarities to “Sune: Melody of Moominvalley,” though the developer clarified there is no direct narrative connection between the two titles. Players can enjoy either game independently and fully experience the world of Moomin.

Additionally, the game’s director, Kristoffer Jetmundsen, was present at the booth. We took a few moments to ask him some questions about the project.

4Gamer:
The appeal of the Moomin world lies not only in its adorable characters and beautiful artwork but also in its portrayal of changing seasons, delicate emotional nuances, and a gentle empathy toward loneliness and anxiety. What is your main message to players through this game? And are there any specific elements you’d like them to pay attention to?
Kristoffer Jetmundsen:
We aim to portray the world created by the deeply respected original author Tove Jansson through our game. Please take note of the art that faithfully recreates her distinctive style, as well as the beautiful music—both are designed to help players feel the essence and spirit of Jansson’s universe.
4Gamer:
What message would you like to share with players eagerly awaiting the release?
Kristoffer Jetmundsen:
The central theme of this game is overcoming difficulties while caring for oneself and others, ultimately growing through those experiences. Please look forward to its release.
4Gamer:
Thank you very much.
