Toho’s game label, TOHO Games, held a live stream event for its new title “Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – The Legend of Hinuka,” available on PC, iOS, and Android, revealing exclusive footage and details about the game system.
During this broadcast, specifics were unveiled regarding the new protagonist “Hinukahime,” the series’ familiar rice farming system, a character growth system based on rice consumption, and other key features.
The game features real-life rice varieties such as “Akita Komachi,” “Koshihikari,” and “Hitomebore.” By combining multiple varieties, players can create new hybrid types. Over 15 different real-world rice strains will be available at launch, with additional ones planned to be added post-release.
Other features introduced include “Rice Spirits,” which aid in battle; simulation elements for developing the base camp; and a special “Divine Sketch” system featuring original, beautifully illustrated artwork. A unique Japanese-style action RPG that fuses exhilarating combo combat with a deeply authentic simulation of traditional Japanese rice farming, under the slogan “Rice is power!” In July 2024, the TV anime adaptation titled Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin aired on TV Tokyo and other networks. The detailed, realistic depictions of rice cultivation sparked widespread attention, and it continues to receive strong support across various streaming platforms. Furthermore, a sequel series has also been officially confirmed.
Now, Toho Games—a game division of Toho Co., Ltd.—has announced the first official live stream for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – The Legend of Hinuka, developed and operated by G2Studios Inc., with original concept and production by e-deru waisu. Your rice cultivation journey begins by selecting the seed rice and forming a specialized farming party. Depending on what you grow and who grows it, the resulting rice quality will vary—so experiment and refine your strategy!
・ More than 15 real-world rice varieties can be cultivated!
One of the game’s standout features is the ability to grow over 15 different authentic Japanese rice varieties, such as “Akita Komachi,” “Koshihikari,” and “Hitomebore!” Just like in reality, crossing different varieties through “crossbreeding” unlocks new types. ・ Adjust your paddy fields according to the seasons to harvest high-quality rice!
In this game, you can finely adjust your farming approach based on seasonal changes. You can also alter weather and environment by consuming in-game items! Different rice varieties thrive under different conditions—so experiment with various settings. Additionally, an “Auto-Set” feature allows you to automate farming setups for easy gameplay.
After approximately six hours of farming, you can harvest rice. Time can be shortened via item consumption or watching ads.
・ Develop your base to gain advantages in battles and rice farming!
By building facilities or upgrading them at your base, you can enhance both combat performance and rice cultivation efficiency. Additionally, the paddy fields within the base gradually increase in rank through repeated cultivation, enabling higher-quality rice production.

・ Equip harvested rice to strengthen characters!
By equipping harvested rice, you can enhance your characters. The improvement in their stats—such as Vitality, Attack Power, and Defense—depends on six attributes of the rice: Quantity, Aesthetic Quality, Flavor, Fragrance, Firmness, and Stickiness.
・ Use diverse upgrade mechanics to strengthen your characters!
Complete quests to obtain ingredients, assemble meals, and unlock “Rank Upgrades” that boost character abilities. Additionally, use specific items for “Ascension,” which enhances a character’s abilities. There are multiple ways to power up your cast!
・ A new exclusive scene in this game: “Divine Sketch.” Featuring numerous original illustrations by P.A. Works!
The special item “Divine Sketch,” available for character equipment, enhances abilities and unlocks latent potential when equipped. Numerous original illustrations from P.A. Works are featured within the Divine Sketch system—showcasing unique expressions of characters you won’t see elsewhere. Be sure to enjoy them!

Characters can be obtained with certainty by exchanging “Yakumo Fragments” (in-game currency)! Additionally, both the “Branch Soul Gems” needed for character upgrades and Divine Sketch items are available through divine edicts—each drawn from the same pool of rewards.

You can assemble an exploration squad of up to four members, then control the team leader during missions. Equip rice or Divine Sketch items, add Rice Spirits to your party, and head out on adventures!

Move by swiping, unleash various attacks with a single tap—making gameplay intuitive and easy to master! Additionally, use the “Flying Claws” to cross rivers or dodge falling rocks as you navigate through diverse level challenges.
