The Tokyo Game Show 2025 is currently underway at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture. At the KONAMI booth, two major attractions are drawing large crowds: “Touhou Denryoku Tetsudou 2 ~Your Town Might Be Here Too~” (available on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, hereafter referred to as “Touhou Denryoku Tetsudou 2”), scheduled for release on November 13, 2025, and “SILENT HILL f”, which was just released on September 25—the opening day of the show.

Located on either side of a large central stage facing the main walkway, both corners are bustling—but their atmospheres couldn’t be more different. The Touhou Denryoku Tetsudou 2 corner radiates festive energy and celebratory vibes, while an eerie aura emanates from the “SILENT HILL f” exhibition area.

At first glance, it’s clear that “Touhou Denryoku Tetsudou” and “SILENT HILL” are worlds apart in tone—but the distinct atmosphere of the “SILENT HILL f” corner comes from a collaborative, thought-provoking exhibition titled “SILENT HILL f Relic Exhibition,” created with Fourth Boundary.

The “Relic Exhibition” is an art installation based on items left behind in coin lockers. Visitors don’t know what’s inside until they open the locker—some are empty, while others contain strange objects whose purpose or meaning remains unclear.

Visitors are invited to use a dedicated online database website related to the event, entering keywords they believe may be connected to each relic. By analyzing search results and clues from text or phrases found online, participants engage in investigative exploration.

This year’s booth features relics discovered (in-game setting) in “Ebisu-oka,” a quiet rural town nestled deep in mountainous regions—the fictional backdrop for the game “SILENT HILL f.” Participants stop before each locker and piece together fragments of this mysterious world, creating an experience that perfectly complements both the “Relic Exhibition” concept and “SILENT HILL f,” the first Japanese-set installment in the series.

One particularly striking feature is a special interactive element inspired by the famed “Shaking Stone” that gained attention at Osaka’s Kansai Expo.

A stone titled “A Stone with █ Stained in [██]”, developed using Murata Manufacturing’s (Miraisense) position-detection and haptic technologies, vibrates intensely and glows red when touched. This isn’t just a gimmick—it creates an uncanny sensation of contact with something unknown, amplifying the overall atmosphere of unease.

The exhibition is photo-friendly. After experiencing it, visitors receive a digital “Invitation from 196X” and a special sticker to continue the journey online. Around the corner, an eerie creature named “Ayakakashi” hands out notebooks—wait… a creature?

Ayakakashi walks slowly, extending its hand with a soft plea: “Give me a notebook.” Just as you think it’s approaching peacefully, suddenly it thrusts a notebook at your face with a quick motion. Its movements are unsettling yet strangely endearing—a bizarrely surreal touch.

The unique collaboration between SILENT HILL, Fourth Boundary, and Miraisense creates a rare experience of “the erosion of everyday life.” Intermittent bright and cheerful “Destination Reached!” music from the neighboring Touhou Denryoku Tetsudou corner contrasts sharply with the ominous mood—this juxtaposition is exactly what makes such game shows so uniquely captivating.

Within just an hour of opening on Business Day One, the booth had already reached an 80-minute wait time, and general admission days promise even longer lines. However, the experience lasts only about 10 minutes—so if you get a chance, definitely jump in!

From September 29 to October 13, after TGS ends, the exhibition will be available free online for a limited period. Those unable to attend in person or those wanting to relive that unsettling feeling should check it out.
