Today (October 30, 2025), Nintendo announced that the life-simulation game Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released on January 15, 2026, and has also revealed details about a free update for the original version.

Known affectionately as “ACNH,” this title is the latest entry in the beloved Animal Crossing series, offering players a relaxing lifestyle experience in a world inhabited by animals. The game features expanded collection mechanics, highly customizable interactions with residents, and new content added through updates—delivering an exceptionally rich package.

The newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 Edition brings several enhancements, including improved graphics resolution, mouse control support for rearranging interiors and creating custom designs, and the addition of a new item called the “Megaphone,” which allows players to call residents via microphone. Online features have also been expanded—now supporting up to 12 players simultaneously, with compatibility for USB webcams.

Players who own the original Nintendo Switch version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition using an “Upgrade Pass.” The base console is priced at ¥7,128 (tax included), while the Upgrade Pass costs ¥550 (tax included).

In conjunction with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, a free update (Ver.3.0) will be released for the original Nintendo Switch version. This update introduces new features such as hotel management in the “Resort Hotel” and the ability to explore an untouched island called the “Dream Island.”

Additionally, various exciting new content has been added: classic Nintendo gaming hardware from past generations appears within the game world; LEGO-themed items are introduced; and collaboration content with The Legend of Zelda series is available.
