Vertigo Games today (October 31, 2025) announced that Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, a new title currently in development by Maze Theory, will be released on December 4th, and unveiled its trailer. The Steam store page for the Japanese market lists the release date as December 5th due to time zone differences.
This game is the latest installment in the first-person stealth action series that originally launched in 1998. Players take on the role of a thief known as Magpie, sneaking through shadows to evade guards and steal legendary artifacts.

The trailer shows Magpie infiltrating a mansion through a window and progressing toward acquiring the target item—a mask. There’s also a scene where Magpie uses special abilities to retrieve valuable items hidden behind paintings, suggesting that keen observation will be crucial.
A particularly thrilling moment comes when Magpie pauses before a guard patrol room, pulls out lockpicking tools, and carefully picks the lock with both hands—highlighting how well-suited this series is for VR, given its original first-person perspective.
The Steam store page currently does not support Japanese language, but the Meta Quest version does. Although the Steam page’s description is already available in Japanese, it may be updated to reflect accurate localization details before release.
