Sunborn Japan today (September 26, 2025) released the PC version of its strategic simulation game “Girls Frontline” on Steam. The game follows a free-to-play model with in-app purchases.
This title is a port of the smartphone-based simulation game set in the aftermath of the Third World War. Players take on the role of commander at private military company Griffin (G&K), raising and assembling tactical dolls—characters personifying firearms—and employing various strategies to defeat enemies. A key feature is the “Vow” system, which unlocks exclusive voice lines and story content as players deepen bonds with their tactical dolls, while also enhancing combat abilities.

◆ Heavy Story in a Post-Third World War Wasteland
“Girls Frontline” is renowned for its compelling “tactical dolls” and intense “story.” Set in 2062, after the Third World War, players take command of private military company Griffin. With their tactical dolls by their side, they’ll traverse numerous battlefields across a ruined world. The iron-blooded dolls who turned against humanity—and mysteries lurking in the shadows—are waiting for your arrival.
Main story character “M4A1”—a special tactical doll in the AR squad capable of leading her unit independently even without a commander.
“Tekketsu” (Iron Blood), the enemy of Griffin. After a mysterious incident, all Tekketsu dolls went rogue and now stand as enemies before you.
◆ Create Dolls and Form Your Squad!
Tactical dolls can be manufactured by combining resources such as manpower, ammunition, rations, and parts. Each doll has strengths and weaknesses based on the firearm type they represent, along with unique skills of their own. Strategically plan combinations to form your ideal squad.
To manufacture dolls, you need a “Doll Manufacturing Contract.” These can be obtained by completing daily missions—so actively pursue these tasks.
Consider firearm types and skills when assembling your squad. Use “Formation Settings” to check skill effect ranges, then plan optimal positions during combat.
◆ Occupy Zones and Defeat Enemies! Aim for Mission Completion!
Battle in “Girls Frontline” follows a board game-style format. During map battles, players spend action points each turn to move. Moving onto the same square as an enemy triggers gunfire combat. Anticipate enemy movements and strategically occupy key zones—execute your tactics wisely!
Clearing a mission is achieved by meeting the objective for each map. Each square has various gimmicks—plan your approach based on placement and effects.
Battles generally proceed automatically. The key to victory lies in carefully planning your formation when assembling units—this is crucial for success!
