Skybound Entertainment and Broken Mirror Games have today (October 31, 2025) announced that the release date for “I Hate This Place” (available on PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch) has been changed to January 29, 2026.
“I Hate This Place” is an overhead-view, craft-based survival horror game set in a twisted world overrun by terrifying monsters. The game stands out with its striking comic-book-style art and a unique atmosphere reminiscent of 1980s horror.
Players take on the role of protagonist Elena, exploring the desolate Rutherford Ranch—venturing through monster-infested forests, ghost towns, and eroded storage facilities. Here, players gather resources, craft essential gear, upgrade their base, and rebuild a safe haven to survive.
As day turns into night, the world transforms dramatically. At night, more aggressive enemies emerge than during daytime hours. Players may need to find secure locations and hide until morning arrives.

“I Hate This Place” is an overhead-view, craft-based survival horror game set in a distorted world overrun by terrifying monsters. The game features striking comic-book-style artwork and a unique atmosphere inspired by 1980s horror.
The game is based on the original comic series of the same name by Kyle Starks (writer) and Artyom Topilin (artist). The comic was published by Skybound and was nominated for the prestigious Eisner Awards—the most respected comics award in America.
In this harsh, unforgiving environment, gather resources from ruins, craft weapons, strengthen your outpost, and prepare for the arrival of nightmares and chaos that begin with nightfall.
The new trailer offers a glimpse into the twisted story unfolding across Rutherford Ranch.
Elena’s journey begins when she and her friends inadvertently awaken an evil “Horned Man.” Thrown into an overwhelmingly hostile world where their lives are constantly threatened, players must remain vigilant while gathering supplies from their surroundings. This land is home to numerous terrifying monsters that hunt by sound—so reckless combat should be avoided at all costs. Choosing the right battles carefully becomes essential for survival.

Additionally, Rock Square Thunder decided to revise the release date after reviewing community feedback and determining that additional time was required for content and specification improvements.
[Previous Release Date: Friday, November 7, 2025]
[New Release Date: Thursday, January 29, 2026]
The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S. Adding the title to your wishlist is currently possible.
Janusz Tarczykowski, Game Director at Rock Square Thunder, commented: “Through our presentations at PAX, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and via the demo version released on Steam, we received a wealth of valuable feedback from players. While the overall direction of the game remains unchanged, this input has provided us with numerous ideas for fine-tuning gameplay mechanics and implementing specification updates to significantly enhance the player experience.
However, as the release date approached, we realized that addressing these many improvements would have to be postponed until after launch—something we couldn’t accept if we wanted to deliver a truly exceptional first impression. We are committed to making this game the best possible version for our players.
Therefore, after re-evaluating the content and consulting with Broken Mirror Games, we’ve decided to extend development by several additional weeks to implement and thoroughly test these changes across all platforms. This means delaying the release to January 2026. We sincerely apologize for announcing this so close to launch, but we kindly ask for your understanding and support.”
Features of the Game
Crafting-driven survival horror with classic mechanics
To survive, meticulously explore Rutherford Ranch—venturing through monster-filled forests, ghost towns, and eroded storage facilities. As you navigate a dangerous world, collect resources, craft essential gear, upgrade your base, and rebuild shelter to prepare for looming threats.
Prepare during the day; survive at night
The world changes dramatically with each cycle of day and night. Use daylight hours to explore, gather materials, and craft necessary items in preparation for what’s coming. At night, more numerous, stronger, and more aggressive enemies appear than during daytime. Moving outdoors without a flashlight becomes extremely difficult. In some cases, finding a safe spot and hiding until morning may be your best chance at survival.
Move quietly—silence is key
Stealth is crucial in combat. Most of the grotesque monsters appearing across Rutherford Ranch track players solely by sound. Therefore, reckless attacks only hasten death. Skillfully use noise to mislead or lure monsters into traps you’ve set.
A fusion of 1980s vibes and comic-book aesthetics
Based on an Eisner Award-nominated comic series, the game features bold color schemes, powerful retro comic-style visuals, and a distinctly ’80s atmosphere. By blending flashy presentation with graphic violence, horror elements, and dark humor, “I Hate This Place” creates a unique experience where unsettling dread intersects with stylistic elegance.
