SNK’s fighting game “Garou: Mark of the Wolves” (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4, hereafter referred to as Garou CotW) will welcome a collaboration character this winter—Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series. Ahead of her official release, we’ve had the opportunity to test Chun-Li’s gameplay, and in this report, we’ll introduce various actions specifically tuned for Garou.

Numerous Special Moves Set as Normal Attacks

Chun-Li is a female fighter from Capcom’s Street Fighter series, one of the pioneering figures among women fighters in fighting games. She has maintained strong popularity since her debut in Street Fighter II, all the way through to the latest installment, Street Fighter 6 (hereafter SF6).

Like the Garou series’ own character, Honoka Hayabusa, Chun-Li continues to serve as a representative face among female fighters in fighting games. Thumbnail image No.017 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

This version of Chun-Li in Garou CotW is based on her appearance in SF6. Like the previous collaboration character, Ken Masters, she has been specially tuned for Garou’s gameplay mechanics.

One major feature in her battle style is that many of the diverse normal attacks from SF6 have been assigned as special moves. Since Garou CotW lacks a mid-level attack, these are covered via directional input attacks.

In SF6, the forward-facing strong punch (Jaw-Strike) has been reconfigured to +strong punch. Thumbnail image No.018 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

With two to three special moves assigned per button, beginners may find the controls challenging at first. However, this wide variety of techniques allows for greater strategic depth in combat. Given Chun-Li’s signature moves are well-represented here, it’s recommended to start by learning how her normal attacks map to special moves.

The mid-level attack useful for breaking guard—Tiger Jaw Thrust—is set as +weak punch. Thumbnail image No.021 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

Of course, iconic moves strongly associated with Chun-Li such as Fa Jin and Wing Spin Kick are included. Thumbnail image No.019 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

A Full Suite of Familiar Moves: Ranged Attacks, Invincible Tech, and Combo Tools

Her special moves include familiar techniques such as the projectile Hadouken, the utility move Hundred Split Kick useful in combos, the Spinning Bird Kick, and the Skyward Kick for ground interrupts and anti-air use. Notably, the Hadouken command has been adjusted—now (in SF6 it’s a charged move), while the Skyward Kick can be performed using either or —a nice touch for command adjustments.

■ Hadouken
Command: + Punch

A projectile that fires a ki blast forward. The weak version is slow, but the bullet lingers near the screen edge—ideal for approaching from long range. The strong version has faster speed and works well as a zoning tool. In the REV version, you can create favorable situations even if your opponent guards at close range, making it excellent for sustained pressure.

It also counters feints, so use it wisely to prevent your opponent from targeting you directly. Thumbnail image No.003 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

■ Hundred Split Kick (Air Available)
Command: + Kick

A rapid, consecutive kick special move. Primarily used for combos, but the weak version has minimal recovery frames and allows you to scatter feints effectively—making it great for quick offense. The REV version includes braking at the 5th and 9th hit, resulting in a 50/50 situation if blocked.

An aerial version is also available, requiring precise timing but usable even at low altitude. Thumbnail image No.005 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

■ Spinning Bird Kick
Command: Charge + + Kick

A special move where Chun-Li flips upside down and delivers continuous kicks while spinning. Since it can be countered if blocked, use it primarily as a combo finisher.

■ Baja Kick (Baisha Kicks)
Command: + Kick

A move where Chun-Li leaps forward and strikes with a spinning kick. If blocked, she doesn’t take counter hit damage, and can transition into combos when it hits on counters. Because it launches her forward, it’s effective for evading opponents’ zoning attacks and also useful as an ambush tactic. The REV version becomes a mid-level attack—perfect for quick mix-ups.

Baja Kick has more horizontal reach than expected. Use this to anticipate your opponent’s zoning moves when setting up surprise attacks. Thumbnail image No.007 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

It features braking—when activated, she lands directly in front of the opponent after leaping. Thumbnail image No.008 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

■ Skyward Kick
Command: or + Kick

A special move where Chun-Li ascends while delivering consecutive kicks. As expected, it’s excellent for anti-air use and ideal against opponents’ rush-ins.

The weak version is fully invincible—perfect for ground interrupts. The strong and REV versions feature braking at the 2nd hit, allowing you to transition into combos after hitting in the air and aim for massive damage.

■ Ki Palm (Super Art)
Command: + Punch

A super art that releases a large mass of ki forward. Use it at the end of combos to extend damage, or use its invincibility frames for reversal moves.

■ Phoenix Wing Fan (Super Art)
Command: + Kick

A super art where Chun-Li rushes forward while delivering continuous kicks. It can be used in combos, and its invincibility frames allow it to escape projectiles. Additionally, the upward kick on hit can be immediately canceled into a jump, enabling you to follow up with aerial attacks seamlessly.

The strong kick version includes braking just before its final attack. Thumbnail image No.012 / [Play Report] Chun-Li joins “Garou: Mark of the Wolves.” Introducing actions tailored for Garou

■ Seven Star Flashlight Kick (S.P.G. Active)
Command: (During S.P.G.) + REV

Chun-Li’s hidden gear refined in Saou Town. While primarily used for combos, its decent horizontal reach also makes it a great option to break out of projectiles—similar to Phoenix Wing Fan.

Chun-Li Joins Garou CotW This Winter!

Many people associate Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series with her high mobility, strong and durable fighting style leveraging projectiles like Hadouken and powerful strikes. Based on our hands-on experience, this version feels very much in line with that classic image.

However, while the core actions are essentially taken directly from SF6, they’re seamlessly integrated with Garou CotW’s unique systems—such as braking and feints—to create a fresh gameplay feel. In combo execution, new transitions using REV Accelerator are particularly fun, suggesting exciting potential for further development.
