On October 27–November 2, 2025, as the country entered November, a total of 310 articles were published on 4Gamer. An artificial rain experiment in India reportedly failed—reminding me how, when I was a child, manga magazines used to promise we’d one day be able to control the weather freely. But here we are, still no Mars bases, underwater cities, or robot assistants in sight. It’s now only two months left until 2025 ends. I had been thinking it was time to get serious—but at this point, “let’s wait till next year” seems like a better idea. Please understand.

Last week, Square Enix released its HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II (available on PC here / PS5 here / Xbox Series X|S here / Switch 2 here / Switch here) on October 30 (PC version released October 31). Though I feel like I’ve been repeating myself lately, this title is a single compilation of remakes for the original Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II: The Evil Gods, similar to Square Enix’s earlier HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III: And Then To Legend… (PC here / PS5 here / Xbox Series X|S here / Switch here), which also employs the company’s signature “HD-2D” graphics style—blending pixel art with 3DCG—and features significant changes to both systems and story.
As such, several related articles have been published detailing how exactly this remake differs. One even made it into the top 10 of our access rankings—so please check out the links below for more details.

On October 30, Nexon released ARC Raiders (available on PC here / PS5 here / Xbox Series X|S here). As noted in our gameplay report, it’s a PvPvE extraction shooter set in a world where civilization has collapsed after being overtaken by mysterious mechanical lifeforms—players descend into dangerous maps to collect valuable resources from ruins and barely survive to escape. If you’ve played Escape from Tarkov, you’ll recognize this genre immediately. Given that similar titles like Escape From Dackoff have seen massive success lately, the extraction shooter trend seems hotter than ever. Steam user reviews for ARC Raiders are “very positive,” so it’s definitely worth riding this wave. Also, check out our interview with Nexon CEO Lee Junghun here for more.

So, once again, let’s take a quick look back at the whirlwind of events in 4Gamer and the world gaming industry over the past week. That’s enough for now.
Note: PlayStation is abbreviated as PS, Nintendo Switch as Switch, smartphones as mobile devices, etc.
[Top 10 Most Viewed Articles from Last Week]
Last week’s top spot went to our weekly series “Cellular Analysis of Mobile Games”—a long-running favorite that’s clearly become a staple. Hmm… quite the bragging rights.
Thumbnail Image No. 033 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap: October 27–November 2, 2025
Based on data from American research firm Sensor Tower, this series provides readers with insights into the rapidly growing mobile gaming industry. According to our latest update published October 30, Japan’s domestic revenue rankings now have Arknights (iOS here / Android here) at the top spot—jumping from 9th place last week. This likely stems from the October 14 release of a side story titled “The Journey of Those Who Live” and the addition of new operator New Testament Exia, which helped boost revenue further.

Second place went to our article about the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II, which we mentioned earlier. The piece summarizes what’s new and different in this remake compared to the original, based on previously announced information. It details changes in graphics, playtime, dungeons, storylines—drawing from prior demo events and developer statements. Truly a labor of love.
Thumbnail Image No. 035 / Weekly 4Gamer Recap: October 27–November 2, 2025
Third place was also a Dragon Quest I & II-related article—this time, more nostalgic in tone. It revisits the evolution from the original 1986 Dragon Quest, to its sequel Dragon Quest II: The Evil Gods (1987). While many readers today weren’t even born when these games launched, they may still remember how each installment of what became known as the “Loto Trilogy” was a cultural phenomenon—released annually with development completed in just one year back then.
In particular, Dragon Quest II managed to succeed despite being an often difficult sequel. It might very well be considered an epoch-making title within the series. If you haven’t played it yet, do give it a try.

Second place went to Arknights, while third place was taken by Duet Night Abyss, which officially launched on October 28 and is developed by HongKong Spiral Rising TECHNOLOGY (available on PC here / iOS here / Android here). As noted in our earlier article, Duet Night Abyss is a high-freedom fantasy adventure RPG featuring anime-style graphics and an innovative dual-wielding system—allowing every character to freely equip both melee and ranged weapons. The game also removes stamina mechanics and gacha systems, which are intriguing features.

MIMESIS, developed by ReLU Games under KRAFTON, ranked ninth. Released on Steam October 27, the game is a cooperative survival title where up to four players face off against MIMESIS—beings that perfectly mimic allies under cursed rain at night. When first announced, it sparked discussion about how AI technology might be integrated into games. “MIMESIS” behaves and speaks almost like a human—natural in movement, dialogue, and action—giving it a next-gen werewolf vibe. Who are you really?!
