D4 Enterprise announced today (October 28, 2025) the launch of new content “Top Zip (MSX2 version)” on its retro game streaming service, [Project EGG]. The price is 550 yen (tax included). A monthly subscription to Project EGG is required to play.
“Top Zip” is a top-down action game originally released in 1987 by Bosotech for the MSX2. Players control the Zipping spacecraft and participate in a race held on the planet Floric.
During the race, players must use weapons such as three-way shots, homing missiles, smoke screens, and landmines, along with ramming attacks to scatter rivals, locate warp zones using the “Radar” item, traverse between stages, and discover a certain key item needed to break through the final stage. Race through all eight stages and aim for the finish line faster than anyone else.

Although the game is set as a race—leading one to expect features like lap times and rankings—the actual gameplay leans more toward an action-adventure experience with a racing flavor. There are no penalties for being overtaken, allowing players to shoot freely in a shooter-like fashion while searching for items and moving between stages. This distinctive style offers a uniquely engaging twist.

Originally released in 1987 by Bosotech, this top-down action game casts players as pilots of the Zipping spacecraft racing across the planet Floric. During the race, you’ll need to use weapons like three-way shots, homing missiles, smoke screens, and landmines—along with ramming attacks—to eliminate rivals, locate warp zones using a radar, move between stages, and find a crucial item required to break through the final stage. Can you clear all eight stages and reach the finish line faster than anyone else?
Although set in a race format—with lap times and rankings displayed—the actual gameplay is better described as an action-adventure with racing flavor rather than traditional racing mechanics. There are no penalties for being overtaken, so players can freely shoot like in a shooter while also moving between stages to search for items—offering a uniquely engaging experience.
What is ‘Project EGG’?
In the 1980s, various platforms such as PC-9801, FM-7, and X1 were widely used. The PC games released during that era greatly influenced modern entertainment. However, due to media degradation and changes in hardware platforms, many of these titles have become unplayable over time.
D4 Enterprise views retro games as cultural heritage and launched ‘Project EGG’ with a mission to preserve them. With deep respect for the game content, hardware, developers, and all fans of retro gaming, we remain committed to ensuring that retro games can be enjoyed by future generations.
