Amazon Games has officially announced on its website (link) that it will cease active updates for its MMORPG, New World, launched in 2021, and shut down the game servers by the end of 2026.
Originally developed as a flagship title for Prime Gaming, New World is a large-scale online RPG set in the mysterious new continent of Aeternum, filled with ancient ruins and magic. Players, stranded on this land, battle monsters and wildlife, mine rare minerals, and build fortresses together with allies—supporting both PvP and PvE gameplay.
A major update titled New World: Aeternum was released in October 2024 to coincide with the launch of the game’s overseas console version. Additionally, a TV series based on the game engine, New World: The Once and Future King, aired on Amazon Prime Video in December 2024.
Although live services continued this month with the launch of Season 10 and the “Nighthaven” update, Amazon Games stated in a recent announcement that it has reached an impossible situation to continue supporting the game through new content updates.
While specific details remain unclear, Amazon HQ announced on October 28, 2025, plans for company-wide staff reductions involving up to 14,000 employees. This likely includes cuts at Amazon Games Orange County in Southern California—the studio primarily responsible for developing and operating New World.
Although sales have already ended across all platforms, the exact date of service termination in 2026 has not yet been disclosed.
