Bandai Namco Filmsworks today (October 23, 2025) announced that the TV anime “Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” will air on the newly established nationwide “Fire Animeval!!” time slot on Tuesday nights at 11:00 PM on Kansai Telecasting Corporation and Fuji Television Network, starting January 2026. Specific details such as exact airing dates will be announced via the official Ghost in the Shell global website and social media channels.

This series was initially announced in May 2024 as a new TV anime project titled “Ghost in the Shell (tentative)” by Science SARU. In April 2025, the official title was revealed, along with details about key staff: Mokochan, who previously served as deputy director on Dandadan, will make his debut as director; and renowned science fiction novelist Takashi Yagami will handle series composition and scriptwriting (see related link). Since the original comic was first published in 1989 by Masamune Shirow in “Young Magazine Special” (Kodansha), the Ghost in the Shell franchise has continued to inspire and challenge audiences worldwide through a wide range of works—including the iconic animated film GHOST IN THE SHELL directed by Mamoru Oshii (1995)—and various other media such as live-action Hollywood films.

Today, it was officially announced that the new TV anime series “Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL,” scheduled to air in 2026, will be broadcast on the nationwide Kansai Telecasting Corporation & Fuji Television Network Tuesday night 11:00 PM “Fire Animeval!!” time slot. This announcement was made during today’s official press conference unveiling the new anime lineup “Fire Animeval!!.”

“Fire Animeval!!” is the name of a newly launched animation block on Kansai Telecasting Corporation & Fuji Television Network, starting in January 2026, airing every Tuesday at 11:00 PM. He also contributed artwork to novels such as Classical Fantasy Within by Soji Shimada (2008–Kodansha) and The Third [Complete Edition] (2015–Mainichi Shimbun), as well as concept art, illustrations, and storyboards for various video games and anime projects.

● Director: Mokochan
Born in 1992. Joined Science SARU in 2015. Full name: Shoma Kimura. Studied under director Masaaki Yuasa alongside Hayato Yamashiro as assistant director. He served as storyboard artist and episode director on The Tale of the Heike (2022) and Four Frames Time Machine Blues (2022). On Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023), he handled storyboards, direction, and also directed the opening animation. For Dandadan (2024), he served as deputy director, storyboard artist, episode director, and responsible for end-credit animation. This upcoming 2026 TV anime series “Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” marks Mokochan’s debut as lead director.

● Series Composition & Script: Takashi Yagami
Born in Sapporo in 1972. Made his literary debut in 2007 with Self-Reference ENGINE, which earned him the Philip K. Dick Award Special Prize. He won the Akutagawa Prize for The Butterfly of the Jester, the Japan SF Grand Prize Special Award for Empire of the Corpse (co-authored with Keiichi Itô), and the Japan SF Grand Prize for Textual Vortex. His works include Code Buddha, which earned him the Yomiuri Literary Prize. He has also served as scriptwriter for the anime series Godzilla S.P. and contributed to science fiction research. Translations include Charles Yu’s Living Safely in a Sci-Fi Universe and Lafcadio Hearn’s Kwaidan.

● Character Design & Chief Animation Director: Shuhei Handa
Born in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1984. Former employee of GAINAX. Freelance animator associated with TRIGGER. He contributed to works such as the “Anime Mirai” version of Little Witch Academia (2013), Kill la Kill (2013–2014), and One Punch Man (2015), before serving as character designer and chief animation director on Little Witch Academia (TV) (2017). He later contributed to Spriggan (2022) and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023), expanding his creative scope. And so, his journey continues…
