Square Enix today (October 24, 2025) released the latest information for its upcoming HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II, scheduled to launch on October 30. This release features an in-depth look at the early stages of the adventure in both Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II, as well as “World Memories,” which chronicle the history of Alefgard.

Square Enix today (October 24, 2025) unveiled the final trailer for its upcoming HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II, set to release on October 30. Alongside this announcement, content including a new episode of the web drama “#DragonQuestIsGood” titled “Love? Friendship?” and TV commercial footage were also released.

The adventure in DQI begins when the protagonist, guided by a mysterious voice from a dream, arrives at the castle of Ladatorm. After receiving advice from the king to investigate the legendary hero Loto and the guiding voice, they set off toward Loto’s Cave and the Rainy Shrine. As the journey unfolds, gathering stories from various people along the way leads to an important revelation.

In DQII, news of a strange event in the Moonbroke Kingdom reaches the peaceful Lorecia Kingdom, abruptly shattering its long-standing tranquility. The protagonist, Prince of Lorecia, sets out on a journey to uncover the truth behind this disturbance. After reaching Samartoria Castle, they discover that the prince is missing and must search for him alongside his sister, Princess Samartoria.

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the multiplatform global release of HD-2D Dragon Quest I & II (hereafter referred to as DQI and DQII) begins. This full remake combines the worlds of Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II, set after the events of Dragon Quest III: And So, to Legend…. In addition to new story content, the game features expanded fields and dungeons, new encounters, powerful new enemies, and various enhancements. New systems such as emblems and scrolls have been added, dramatically upgrading battle mechanics! Witness for yourself the conclusion of Loto’s trilogy, reimagined in HD-2D!

Enjoy the richer, more substantial story of DQI, with new encounters across various races and powerful enemies appearing throughout different regions!

Follow the mysterious voice through various regions of Alefgard!
The protagonist (you), guided by a strange voice from a dream, arrives at Ladatorm Castle. The king advises them to investigate the legendary hero Loto and the guiding voice, setting off toward Loto’s Cave and the Rainy Shrine. Along the way, listen to stories from people you meet as you explore regions where legends of Hero Loto remain.
Prepare before setting out on your adventure!
Receive useful tools and gold from the Ladatorm King. Use this money to purchase gear and equipment—don’t forget to equip them!
Depart Ladatorm and head toward Loto’s Cave!
Use the “convenience button” to assign your favorite commands as shortcut keys. This is especially useful for quickly using recovery items found in sparkling spots across fields!
Battle monsters in fields and dungeons!
In this game, you can now check enemy stats when selecting commands. Choose your attacks wisely based on what you see!
Dungeons are full of treasures!
Exploring dungeons is risky, but hidden treasures like scrolls and small medals await. If you collect enough small medals and deliver them to certain people, you’ll receive a premium item!
Listen to stories from people you meet on your journey!
While exploring, discover a dilapidated ruin-like place. A bard named Zaire appears—seemingly researching the legend of Hero Loto.
What does the sage reveal at the Rainy Shrine…?
Finally reaching the “Rainy Shrine,” you encounter an old man who calls himself a sage! Will he know something about Hero Loto and the guiding voice?
The truth revealed after traveling across various regions…!? The great adventure of a young descendant of Loto begins now!

News arrives in Lorecia Kingdom that something strange has occurred in Moonbroke Kingdom, shattering its long-standing peace. As Prince of Lorecia, the protagonist (you) sets off to uncover the truth behind this disturbance! First, find others who carry Loto’s blood and head toward Moonbroke Kingdom.
Talk to the King of Lorecia and begin your adventure!
Before departure, receive words of encouragement from your father, the king, along with a necklace called “Oujou no Ai.” It holds special power—surely it will aid you on your journey.
Explore the field thoroughly!
In this game, you can now choose whether to display hidden maps (“secret locations”), town and dungeon treasure chest positions on the map.
Take a break at towns along the way!
When buying and selling items at shops, you may occasionally receive a “Fukubiki Ken.” Collect them and spin the wheel at “Fukubikiya” locations around the world!
Upon arriving at Samartoria Castle…
You reach Samartoria Castle—but the prince is missing!? Search for him together with his sister, Princess Samartoria!
Set out on an adventure with Princess Samartoria!
While searching for the prince, the princess joins battle! Though she can’t be directly controlled, she supports you with various attacks and healing spells.
What happened to Prince Samartoria…?
Despite searching based on clues, the prince remains missing. Re-explore places you’ve visited before.
Will the protagonist and Prince Samartoria finally reunite…!? The adventure continues!
Collecting scattered “World Memories” from the ocean reveals Alefgard’s hidden history and new truths!
In DQII, as the story progresses, the party is asked by the fairy race to retrieve scattered “World Memories” lost at sea. Recover these memories to uncover the hidden past of Alefgard.
The Fairy Historian, who manages the fairy race’s memories, asks you to gather “World Memories” recording Alefgard’s history.
It’s said the “World Memories” were scattered across the ocean floor by Hargon’s followers. Interview sea-dwelling merfolk and other knowledgeable beings, then thoroughly explore the underwater regions!
While exploring the ocean floor or deep sea, you may find glowing “World Memories.” Note: Deep-sea areas are home to terrifying monsters—proceed with caution.
The “World Memories” contain records of events in this world and information about the ancestors who were heroes.
